This is a stunning restaurant with amazing food, drinks, atmosphere and most of all staff. The owners are deeply rooted in the community and you will feel like family friends from the moment you walk through the door. Have drinks in the grand hall encore or after dinner and then enjoy the vast menu in a comfortable and elegant dining room that is cozy. There is also a pub that is great as well. Add this to your list if you haven’t been here and if you have make plans to come back. You will be happy you did!

To be absolutely honest I was a little disappointed in the Red Lion Burger that I had, it seemed to be really dense and over worked when they pattied it out. At first bite it looked very red even though I ordered the burger medium, then the redness went away much like the ground beef one get at Krogers. The Mrs on the other hand was in heaven with the appetizer we chose the Brussel Sprouts, I have to agree with her that they were absolutely by far the best we’ve ever had! Her fish and chips were simply average a little greasy but white and flaky. The couple with us tried the hot brown and the though it was good!! The building had a lot of history and the patio was a great spot.

We had a hard time finding a place to park and even the front door but it was worth the effort. The building needs a little more restoration but is very interesting. The staff seemed inexperienced but friendly and anxious to please. The food was fantastic! Great experience.

This was a terrific choice for a special 20th Birthday for our youngest! The Ahi Tuna Tartare was an excellent starter. The Pork Belly & Brussels Sprouts was enough for an entree. Our guest of honor chose the 14oz Ribeye that she said was “cooked to Perfection” and “highly recommended”. The Cajun Shrimp Pasta was “the best” her fiance ever had. My Bride & I both had a generous Cast Iron Seared Pork Rack that was delectable. Birthday Girl topped off the evening with their special Bourbon Butter Cake.

This has options for Vegetarian, Gluten Free & economical choices if you just want the ambiance of Science Hill.

Would suggest to everyone. This is great.

Edit: On the way out we stopped for pics and met one of the owners, Brian. This guy is one funny, down-to-earth Veteran who really left us on a high note. Stop in and say hi – you’ll be glad you did.

The Red Lion at Science Hill was a real treat. Another couple joined us for an evening meal. The restaurant is located in Science Hill School, originally known as the Science Hill Female Academy and was founded in1825 as a female preparatory school. The building itself is well worth the visit.

Our friends started off the evening with Ahi Tuna Tartare which was prepared with fresh Ahi tuna, avocado, and cucumber. Wasabi, sesame, and Wonton chips came with this great appetizer. Our friends truly enjoy the tuna. My wife and I tried the Pork Belly and Sprouts as our appetizer. This dish was a sweet chili pork belly with Brussels sprouts and chopped peanuts. The pork Belly appetizer was very flavorful. We enjoyed it very much. Both portions of the appetizers were of a good size. In fact, my wife and I thought, at one time, we would need a take-home box for the Pork Belly.

The wives both had the Verlasso Salmon which arrived with a rosemary apple sauce with herb-seared cauliflower and glazed carrots and greens. The wives both agreed, the salmon was divine and the portions called for take-home boxes. My friend ordered the Cajun Shrimp Pasta which was presented with sauteed Rock Shrimp, celery, onions, bell peppers, and tomato in a lightly roasted garlic cream sauce. The pasta itself was Campanelle. My friend enjoyed this dish very much. I had the Southern Spicy Chicken and Dumplings. This offering arrived with two pieces of chicken with vegetables and rolled dumplings in a chicken Jus (sauce). The chicken, vegetables and dumplings were delicious. My only issue with this dish was I had to hunt around and under the vegetables to find the few dumplings that came with the dish. The Red Lion may want to rethink the name of this offering as Spicy Chicken and Vegetables with Dumplings.

We all felt like the service was a little slow. In fact, at one time we were thinking of asking our server if they had forgotten about us. The restaurant wasn’t that busy, in fact, the chef was making the rounds at a few tables while we were waiting patiently for our meal. The service wasn’t really a deal breaker at all, but I would be remiss if I didn’t mention it. We all felt the quality and quantity of the offerings justified the price. We will be dining here again.

The Red Lion has new owners and they are doing a phenomenal job of breathing new life into this hidden gem of Shelbyville! Their daily specials make it really hard not to eat out every single night! We became hooked after attending the Boxing Day Brunch with Traditional English Breakfast and a lovely Breakfast risotto. We plan to attend the 4 course Valentine’s Dinner this month also! The inside dining area is very large with plenty of space between tables, so it doesn’t feel too crowded during these Covid times, and all the staff wears masks appropriately. Come try out Shelbyville’s best- kept secret!!

My brother brought me here for my Birthday. The Thai pork belly appetizer was amazing. The meatloaf had spicy ketchup. I don’t normally get meatloaf out but this one did not disappoint. Rosemary was an excellent waiter. I got a piece of cheesecake in the house to celebrate my birthday. It was wonderful

Food was really good! Service too. Get the pork belly with Brussels sprouts!! So delicious!. Small desert portion for the price, but otherwise..great experience.
Pictured is the pork on left and pasta with beef on right. I didn’t care for my husband sides that came with his pork dish. It was parsnips and unknown.
