This is my favourite restaurant in Portland! And probably just one of my faves!

The ambiance is just so cozy — ran completely by this lovely German couple. Have been here multiple times and everything is so good, but the potato pancakes + schnitzel + potato au gratin + roasted veggies are just amazing. The bread they give is amazing as well. Clearly made fresh in house in their tiny kitchen. BYOB!

Definitely make a reservation.

I am a German living in the U.S. (Chicago). It’s hard to find good German food in the States like Oma used to make. This has been by FAR the best German food I have had in the U.S. I made sure to get a wide variety of food (cucumber salad, pea soup, Schnitzel, and Sauerbraten) and everything was cooked to perfection. I had a great conversation with the owner (in German of course) as well. If you’re looking for an authentic German food experience, look no further. Cannot recommend this restaurant more. 10/10!!!

The service was excellent and the food felt like it was cooked at home. Tasty and authentic. Small intimate area. Maybe 6-7 tables. 100% would return.

Our recent dining experience at Schulte & Herr restaurant was fantastic! From the moment we walked in, we felt welcomed and comfortable. The ambiance was perfect, with warm lighting, cozy wooden decor, and traditional German music playing in the background.

The menu was full of delicious traditional German dishes that did not disappoint. Everything we ordered was incredibly flavorful and cooked to perfection. We started with the potato cake appetizer that came with apple sauce and sour cream which was a great start to the meal. We then enjoyed the Jägerschnitzel with mushroom gravy, spaetzle and red-cabbage and it was absolutely delicious! Finished off with a delicious raspberry chocolate cake. The portions were generous and the food was presented beautifully.

On top of the fantastic food, the service was impeccable. Our server was friendly, attentive, and knowledgeable about the menu. She even offered some great recommendations when we couldn’t decide what to order.

Overall, our experience at this German restaurant was unforgettable. The food, the service, and the atmosphere all exceeded our expectations. We highly recommend this restaurant to anyone who is looking for authentic German cuisine and a warm and inviting dining experience. We will definitely be back!

Getting to eat here felt like a gift. What an incredible meal I just had. To start I had the soup and potato pancakes. Both flawless and delicious. For my main I had the schnitzel with potato salad , kraut, and cucumber salad. All PERFECTION. tasted just like moms and reminded of our time in Germany. I can’t belive I’ve not heard of this place sooner.

Comfy cosy vibes with warm service. Matched only by its great food and BYOB. ALREADY craving more cucumber and potato salad from here. Looking forward to sharing this place with my family!!!

Best German food around! This cozy, traditional Eastern European restaurant is a true gem. It’s BYOB, which adds to the charm, and every meal begins with perfectly baked rye bread, just the right amount of caraway, and a flavorful spread.

We always start with the Zwiebelkuchen, an onion and Gruyère tart topped with arugula. If you’ve never had it before, it’s a must-try!

Since we can never decide, we split two of our favorites:

The Schweineschnitzel – thinly pounded pork loin, breaded and fried to golden perfection. We recommend pairing it with the rich potato gratin.

The Schwäbische Spätzle — soft, hand-pressed dumplings made from flour and eggs, layered with caramelized onions and Emmenthaler cheese, and served with a cucumber salad with dill on the side. The textures and flavors are incredibly comforting and satisfying.

This place is loved by locals and German food fans alike. Reservations are recommended, especially on weekends, but walk-ins can sometimes get lucky. We also highly recommend their takeout. It was our go-to during the pandemic and continues to be a favorite.

This is a gem in Portland. This is authentic German food. It reminds me of the great food I had when I went to Germany. Everything has been simply amazing. I’ve ordered to go a few times, and had a party of 6 here pre-covid. It’s always been a great experience. The waitress maintaining all of the tables on a busy night was very impressive. She is probably the best host/waitress I’ve seen. She also helped me practice my German. The ambience is very comfortable and not pretentious. Candles lit at the tables. Paintings of Germany on the walls. The bread and smear was very nice. The potato cakes were amazing – crispy outside, moist inside, delicate texture. Not too vinegary, well cooked potatoes, perfect potato salad. Get the schnitzel with the mushroom gravy- it’s great!! The schnitzel is very thinly cut and pounded. My friend enjoyed their split pea soup. We got the chocolate cake with raspberries to go. It was great. Definitely will be back. One of my favorite restaurants.

This small place is a gem. From the mismatched tables and chairs to the plates and glasses, everything will remind you of being in a relative’s home. The restaurant reminded me of the places I would go to in Portugal, as most of the best restaurants are the small local places that make you feel like you are eating at home. The food is incredibly delicious and tastes extremely fresh. We went for brunch and we were there early and served by the owner. She was very friendly and offered suggestions on the menu. I loved everything I had and can not wait to return again for brunch.
