We eat at a lot of South Indian restaurants across UK and beyond – this one is brilliant for sure! Thank you so much.
As mentioned above, we visited when Aahaa was finalising their menu ahead of opening, and had the samosa chaat and tandoori fish starters, then prawn moille and chicken hyderabadi biryani, with Peshawari naan and chilli and garlic naan. Each dish was packed full of flavour and, for us, the right level of spice. Our particular favourite was the tandoori fish (pictured), and entire fish cooked with tandoori spices and with flesh that just came right off the bone. As and when we return, we will definitely order again!
The hyderabadi biryani was another big highlight, both very tasty and also very fragrant. Our server mentioned they’ve been trialling a number of different recipes and methods to get this dish just right ahead of opening, and on this evidence it was time well spent!
Service was also friendly, and the soft launch should also mean they open with any issues ironed out as well. It’s hard to judge the atmosphere but, when opened and full, I’m sure I’ll be a great place to enjoy a meal.
The prices quoted on the menu also seemed extremely reasonable, and so would be good value for money too.
Overall, well worth the visit, for the tandoori fish and hyderabadi biryani alone, and I hope the official opening for Aahaa all goes well!
We ordered a mix of everything. For non-veg, we tried the Nalli Biryani, Potlam Biryani, Lamb Chops, and Chicken Majestic. For the vegetarians, we had Lotus Stem, Paneer Tikka, and the Karivepaku Rice with Gutti Vankaya. Every single dish was delicious.
A special shout-out to the staff, who were incredibly friendly and gave us excellent recommendations on what to order. We will definitely be returning soon for more!
Unexpectedly, they had the full menu on offer, so we ordered a handful of dishes we fancied. In short, the food was very, very good – definitely the best curry I’ve had in Chorlton.
We started with chicken majestic (£8.99) and vada (£6.99). The chicken was tender and perfectly spiced, with a nice heat that built as we scoffed them down. The vada was more subtle in flavour, but incredibly fresh and fluffy – my other half doesn’t usually like them, but these were great. Served with a nicely balanced sambar.
Mains were the Aahaa chicken (£12.99) and lamb rogan josh (£13.49), served with a roti (£2.49) and karivepaku rice (£5.99). The chicken was outstanding, so flavoursome, with super-tender pieces of thigh and a load of cashews. The lamb was a little salty, but incredibly flavoursome – a long way from all the “curry by numbers” rogan joshes I’ve had over the years.
The roti was a good size, while the rice (whose name means curry leaves) was flavoursome enough to eat on its own…but definitely better with curry!
As a bonus dish, we got a portion of their speciality, the Hyderabadi chicken dum biryani (£11.99). I’m very glad we did, as it was delicious. It had that subtle depth of flavour that proper biryanis do, with chicken that fell off the bone.
The staff were friendly and helpful but perhaps a little under-confident. The owner/manager stopped by for a nice chat too.
My fiancée calls me a curry curmudgeon, so I don’t give Indian restaurants a 5* review lightly, but Aahaa thoroughly deserves it. We’ll definitely be heading back soon – having this place a 10-minute walk from my front door is dangerous!
The staff were warm, welcoming, and attentive, which made the experience even more enjoyable. A big thank you to the entire team for the delicious food and wonderful hospitality.
Highly recommended, this is a must-visit place for anyone who loves great food!
