We visited Rebel Taco after a movie at the Regal theater opposite this restaurant. Almost everything we were trying to order from the menu, we got told they were out of it! The waitress had brought some chips and salsa. When asked for a bit more salsa she again told us they were out of it!!! How do you run a place being out of everything beats me!?
In hindsight we should’ve left. The order of fajitas were good enough. Probably cz we were hungry! Never going back and I hope to see a new customer caring restaurant open up in its place since this is a prime location and could do quite well!
The server was also gracious and smiling. Prices are very affordable. The decor is a bit low key and could be improved. But overall we were delighted with the experience before enjoying a movie at Regal cinemas.
The free chips were very oily/greasy, so I only ate one. The salsa had good flavor.
My wife’s empanadas were very dry. Super dry chicken inside and she could only eat them by dipping them in the salsa. My son’s quesadilla had the dry chicken in it, but the melted cheese helped. The problem was that they put the pico on the plate next to the quesadilla without a barrier, so the juices of the pico just made the quesadilla soggy on the bottom, which really killed the taste and more so the texture. I got the El Jefe tacos. The meat looked grey like it had been boiled and when I picked up the taco, there was a pool of grease at the bottom of the taco holder and grease was just dripping off. I took one bite and all I could feel and taste was grease coating my throat and I had to give the tacos back to the waitress. I did not get anything else. My son said the water was the best there.
After sending my tacos back, a manager never came by to see what was going on. This place seems to be poorly run and the food was just horrible. Worst taco experience we’ve ever had, which is a shame because I was so looking forward to trying this place and hoping to finally find a good Tex-Mex place in this area.
Fast forward a few years and I’m back again. We happen to be in the area and wanted a place to get drinks. This restaurant looked slow and quiet, so it worked out perfectly…and I finally got to check out the bar.
We were able to select our own seats at the bar. They served complimentary chips and salsa at the bar area when ordering food/drinks.
Since the place was still a little empty (it was earlier in the afternoon), the music was a bit too loud. But the DJ definitely did a good job with the songs.
They served the margaritas in a cheap plastic cup…..is this a random taco spit in a strip mall or the upscale Brambleton!? Not to mention…they only have one cheaply made menu for all day every day. The menu looks very basic and not accurate. Most restaurants in the area offer separate menus based on happy hour time frame/days, lunch/dinner, etc. Rebel Taco menu shows “happiest hour” is from 4-7, but it doesn’t clearly state that is Monday through Friday only. They weren’t willing to offer this on a Saturday. Also, the margaritas are listed as 13.99, but once the bill came, we saw there was an additional charge for the El Diablo. Definitely very misleading!
Review from 2022:
I’ve been eyeing this place since they first opened, but they were always so busy with the line going out the door!! And they don’t open until 4pm everyday. I finally braved it on a Saturday afternoon. Although had to hang around the shopping center until 4pm.
As soon as I was seated, the server came up and took my order. The meals come with a platter of chips and salsa. I ordered the Real Deal Burrito (~$12) with no meat and shoestring plantains on the side, but they put all the toppinga on the side. The burrito was really small and I wasnt sure how to eat the burrito with all the stuff on the side. The rice was very overcooked.
Im not going to lie, the prices are pretty high for just veggie options and then additional $3-5 to add meat. I guess to compete with places like Qdoba and chipotle?
The place has nice vibes, including the decorations. The music is hit or miss…with ealternative English. The seating isn’t comfortable. There is a nice bar, which I want to check out next time. Also plenty of patio seating.
I’m a vegetarian, so options are pretty less and standard in other Mexican restaurants. Tacos were amazing and the burrito bowl was so fresh, can’t recommend it enough. Service was pretty quick, we stepped in at 9:15, we were served, had our food by 9:40. Appreciate their quick and amazing service! Can’t wait to visit again
