Buchanans is an excellent restaurant. Owners James and Caitlin are friendly and kind; it is clear they take pride in delivering fantastic dining experiences to all of their guests whether you have a reservation or just walk in. The staff is phenomenal top to bottom: Servers can answer all questions on the dishes(ingredients, how it’s prepared etc) and offer great pairings, the kitchen crew absolutely knocked it out of the park. You can tell they use quality ingredients: locally sourced and wild caught. The dining room is cute and cozy but not over the top. It is a classic chop house and I believe everything on the menu is tried and true. The wasabi shrimp was a crowd favorite, followed by the salmon and sablefish. Pure class and definitely one of the best establishments in the valley. Thank you Buchanans!

Truly one of the best if not the best spots to eat in the valley. Buchanans is pure class and a must visit. Owners James and Caitlin are present and involved in providing an amazing experience for their patrons, can’t miss them. Top notch hospitality from the moment of arrival at the Kandahar Lodge on Big Mountain. If you’re early, definitely stop in for a beverage at the Snug bar and hang out by the roaring fire.
Our server Alicia was phenomenal: provided recommendations and pairings, was always attentive to us and all of her tables. The kitchen crew absolutely crushed it, shout out to Taylor and Steen – Rack of lamb was a smash hit at the table and the Belgian chocolate dessert was out of this world. The menu has options for everyone’s preferences and offers creative dishes made with quality ingredients. Props to the whole operation, top to bottom.
Buchanan’s will not disappoint. Will be back routinely and this is the place to bring visitors when they’re in town.

Service and atmosphere were awesome. My stew was not edible. Mushrooms were undercooked and stew was very salty. Everyone else in my party liked their food. Bruschetta was excellent. Maybe it was just my meal. I politely paid for the soup that I took one bite of. Went home starving. This review is my opinion only. My group would give the restaurant likely 5 stars.

Everytime I go here Im never ever disappointed. The Lobster pot pie is amazing. OhOhOh the Fresh bread with olive Tapenade butter is mouth watering. The staff is amazing. The restaurant is the best in Northwest Montana.

Really a great dining experience. It was so good that we decided to come back for a second night. Our first night we shared a lobster pot pie and the wasabi salad. Was excellent. The second night shared the crab cakes appetizer, ribeye and the seafood pasta dish. Everything was wonderful and the service was top notch. Cozy dining space and very friendly staff. Highly recommended.

The chef prepared the salmon perfectly; the wedge salad and its unique dressing was tasty. The dining room inside was packed so we ate on the patio with a beautiful view from the mountain. Thank you, Caitlin B., for the stellar service! The hosts at our b&b in Whitefish told us we should check this place out. They were absolutely right!

I got the tomahawk steak and it has ruined all other steak for me. This was the best steak I have ever had by an absolute landslide! Nothing compares to the steak that the god in that kitchen cooked.

Ate there last night. Food was great, service was wonderful!! Got to speak with the owner of the restaurant, super cool guy and excited to be a part of the community! We were with our friends who are from Canada and they said the poutine was amazing. My husband ordered the Delmonico. Cooked perfectly, flavor was wonderful, great dish! I ordered the chicken and shrimp Cajun pasta. Really great depth of flavor and was not too spicy. Finished with a cheesecake that was light and fluffy with a wonderful huckleberry sauce. Definitely worth it! Will be back again!!
