The sushi rice is machine-made instead of hand-formed, so it’s a bit firm and lacks the soft texture you’d get from hand-shaped sushi. The fish itself is quite fresh, though, and they provide wasabi and ginger, which is great.
The price is on the higher side considering the portion sizes — I’ve been visiting Kura since the Fort Lee location, then Edison, and now the Freehold store. The price increases over the years have been quite steep. It would be an excellent deal if it were a little more affordable.
One highlight of my visit was the service from a staff member named Jason — he was extremely polite and attentive, truly the best server in the whole restaurant. It’s rare to find such great service these days!!

This place is amazing. I will say they could use more vegetarian options like a sweet potato roll and if you want a fork you get a plastic one. Also servers was far and few between as you do most of the food ordering yourself and a robot delivers your drinks. But the food was phenomenal. Tried some things i never thought I would eat just to try it. As well as the free gift when you get to 15 plates makes sure your gonna be full by the time you leave. I can not wait to come back here for more.

As a fairly new enjoyer of the Kura Sushi franchise and having had the privilege of visiting a handful of locations across the country, I thought I had the basic concepts of the company down pat: fresh sushi, cute Japanese themes, and absent service. Before I stopped by Kura in Freehold, I had come to expect a hands-off style from the employees and figured the franchise as a whole was leaning toward a new-age, self-serve method of food service (which isn’t a complaint or criticism, I quite enjoy the adorable drink robot they have on-site ^^). However, as soon as I heard the first set of welcoming, IRRASHAIMASE from the staff when I was being shown to my seat, I knew this location had its eyes set on something different. They provided the great sushi and adorable Japanese characters, of course, but also an added level of attentiveness and care that I was surprised to receive. Every staff member was polite and kind, and I believe most came by to check on the quality of my experience throughout my stay. It’s quite regrettable that I wasn’t able to get any names to properly thank them in this review.
The back of house also consistently exhibited energy and fervor by shouting various Japanese phrases during my meal. As a former employee of a Japanese restaurant, it really put a smile on my face. 🙂 I’m also unsure whether the gentleman I spoke with during my exit was the owner or manager of the store, but it was yet another very pleasant interaction.
Thank you, members of the Kura Sushi Freehold branch for providing one of the best restaurant experiences I’ve had in awhile. I’ll definitely return and spread the word so others can enjoy the same great meal as I did.

Really FUN place to eat. Food constantly revolving around restaurant on a conveyor belt, and if u order from the tablet the food comes very quickly on a separate conveyor belt. Drinks served by robots. Also plenty of human server to assist. Price is affordable and food is decent. But surprisingly I didn’t see teriyaki options or many vegetable options. But plenty of sushi and other food choices.

I had to stop and try this brand new revolving sushi spot at the freehold mall! What a treat from the modern decor to the robot that brought you drinks. The sushi was good.My fav was the crunch roll I got the hand roll and was a lil soggy the price but the other 2 were crispy. The toro salmon was fresh and delish.Price was pretty high for what you get but def a must try experience. I will bring my gf back to try.I went to a place in Dallas that was Aaamazing soo that is all I can compare to.

Great new spot that we took a chance on. The sushi is fresh and constantly coming but you can always order separately if the tables before you are taking everything you want lol. Otherwise the staff is very welcoming and explain everything in the most simple way. Very fun experience!

My first time at Kura and definitely will be a regular customer. I came to the soft opening and was not disappointed. Everything was fresh and many various plates to choose. If there is a specific item you would like, you just place the order on the ordering system and it gets delivered to you on the conveyor belt. Staff was friendly and attentive.

Very poor selection and poor quality sushi. Most of the conveyor options were empty. I got the Shrimp Tempura Udon and it came out soggy. The sushi roll options that were available were barely even 3 small pieces. The green tea is a scoop of powder in hot water and I was never offered a refill for the cost of $3.90! Plus, there was a worker on “their” break sitting at the table next to me. “They” were extremely loud and obnoxious.
I won’t be back to a Kura.
