For Nellysford, this place slaps.
I walked in curious and looking at the menus- very specific to their clientele if we’re being honest. But that was ok- I was stoked to ask for nopales and they have them! Not every spot in Richmond has nopales so that says a lot for a mostly -serving-white-people-establishment. Jalapeño marg was perfect nice and spicy, quesadillas were melty and warm. Exactly what you need after a full day of skiing. Good first impression! They have baked goods at the door don’t miss those. The table salsa is chunky and better than most, the chips could use a change from red-white-blue towards cantina deep gold color. ¡Gracias yall! Hope y’all are around for a while.

I’m really hoping this place picks up. They have been open for only a week or two. Most places will have a few kinks to work out. I am pretty sure they are short staffed. Only two ladies were working the floor, and checking people out. Which may be why service was slow. It took a while to get drinks and the standard chips and salsa. Oh, they have no alcohol yet. No beer. A dish for the salsa was dirty and could not be used. My culinary companion said the ladies bathroom was pretty bad. The tables also have formaldehyde compliant stickers for you to read while you wait. All in all the place is not so great, but it has plenty of seating. Like I said at the start I hope this place comes together, and improves on some things, because the food is pretty good. We only had three items from the menu, but they were tasty. I will give them a couple three months to hopefully get it really going and give them another try.
Cheers!

The tacos were sloppy ,soaking wet, no flavor!! The pork carnitas were fatty instead of chunks, chicken tacos horrible, wraps hard yet doughie due to extreme wetness! They do not offer more then 1 basket of chips with salsa which os a blower bc i enjoy rhat but it was horrible even if they had offered me more i couldnt have eaten them they were greasy! The prices are entirely too much for the quality of food and service I have never had Spanish food disgust me and make me sick .

If you’re in wintergreen skiing, mountain biking, whatever: Do. Not. Sleep. On this place. If you’re sick of the “burgers and fries” with the breweries around here, let Don Lupe’s give you reprieve. The draft beers I was brought were literally iced on top, the tortillas are homemade, the salsa is fresh, and the service is friendly and attentive. I ordered a molcajete to share and it was Out. Of. This. World. The atmosphere is modest and based on other reviews it might be new to the area, however, the food is made with care and is truly great. It was a relief not to have to make food in a kitchenette to avoid more resort/bar food. Come and try Don Lupe’s and you won’t be disappointed.

We had been anticipating this restaurant for months. We saw the couple reviews about service and it seems they read the reviews and worked hard to overcome the growing pains of overcoming a new restaurant. We were seated pretty much right away and our drink order was taken promptly. Food was quite tasty and we were checked on regularly by the staff, who were friendly and courteous. The prices were very reasonable and portions generous. Drinks and chips were refilled regularly. In all we had a great experience, and we’ll definitely be back. Any new restaurant will have some kinks to work out and management is definitely listening to feedback and improving on it. We highly recommend giving this place a try, they will be a wonderful addition to Nellysford!!

It was very tasty, fast, and chip — I recommend this place! The service has improved, the food was prepared and served quickly. The portions are large, and the food is fresh. They have a kids’ menu. Thank you, we’ll be coming back!

Visiting the area and a local put me on to this place. Had the tamales and the fish tacos. Tamales were great, authentic and flavorful. Would definitely reorder. The fish tacos were among the best I’ve ever had. The fish was flavorful, a little smoky, and obviously grilled. Definitely, a must try!

The drinks were good, the food was average quality but way overpriced. The 3/5 review is because when I went to pay, the only tip options presented to me were 25%, 30%, and 35%. I had to select custom tip and manually enter in a 20% tip while the server stood over my shoulder and watched.
20% should be the most a server should expect unless they somehow went over the moon for their customers. 35%? Are you serious? You’re not being clever or outsmarting people into tipping you more by forcing them to take more steps to tip 20%. Completely turned me off from coming here again.

Disappointing experience at Don Lupe. The food was edible, but that was it. None of our meals were rated “good”. I have had far, far, better Mexican food. The margarita was lackluster and unimpressive. The real turn off was when the bill was presented and the tip options were 25, 30, and 35%. For a poor restaurant to try and extort those amounts of a tip is laughable. I will not go back, which is a shame as I hoped for a good Mexican restaurant in Nellysford.

My husband and I are staying at the Wintergreen resort and we were craving Mexican and remembered seeing the Don Lupe restaurant on our drive up. It is hands down the BEST Mexican food we have ever had; please try it! I promise you’ll love it! Five stars all the way!!!!! The horchata is creamy and sweet; just what you need! The tricolor burrito is chefs kiss & you haven’t had a coke until you’ve had their Mexican soda!
