The couple that runs it were so friendly. You could tell just how passionate and inspired they are by food and culture. They love what they create and it shows.
They have a different item on the menu each day – I went on a Monday so it was BBQ Chicken with Habichuelas and rice. Came served in a tray that closed so perfect if you want to transport elsewhere.
The food and flavour was amazing. Hot and beautifully presented. Each bite gave some thing different and combining it all together was a taste explosion.
100% reccomend that you try this place if you are visiting Kalama and need a quick lunch or evening meal. There’s benches along the Columbia River which is perfect to grab something and to go eat and watch the boats and sunset.
I am looking forward to trying their bread bowls of mac & cheese and brisket when I go back! … ooo and the ribs lol.
You won’t be disappointed!!
We can’t wait to try everything, one day at a time. The owner was friendly and directed us out of rain and let us know when it was ready.
We will be back !!!
Well look no further than Kalama,WA!
As soon as I exited my vehicle, the wind coming off the Columbia River, instantly hit me with that sweet , sweet smell of oak burning in the smoker & like Toucan Sam, I followed my nose to the rustic looking log cabin food cart, situated outside the new Mountain Timber Market. As I got closer I saw the rotisserie smoker on the back porch & the great news, it’s a stick burner!!! ( IYKYK )
I stepped up & ordered the Friday Ribs & Mac special. ( Pork Spare Ribs, Mac & Cheese & Coleslaw ) for $16.99 added a can of Coke for $2.
When it was ready, I was handed a clear clamshell style container, that had fogged up from the steam of the Mac & Ribs.
I sat outside, under the covered area, & cracked open the container & aromas of the ribs smoked to perfection again graced my nostrils as I looked at the sunlight dancing on the juicy, glistening ribs. A beautiful smoke ring, perfect bark, seasoned the way ribs ought to be, fat rendered just right, big, fat, meaty, pork spare ribs the way the good Lord intended.
I’m not usually a slaw guy. I USUALLY give my slaw to my wife….that wasn’t happening this time! This slaw, like the ribs, was perfection! Crisp…crunchy…& the best part, flavors that were balanced. Not too sweet. Not too tangy. Just balanced. It really was perfect!
Finally, the Mac & cheese did NOT disappoint neither. The consistency of the noodles was spot on. Creamy. Cheesey. Everything you want it to be!
Let me put it to you like this, it was so good, after I finished, I went and got another order to take home for dinner that night. Unfortunately, my teenage son got home from basketball practice and decided to help himself to what was previously gonna be my dinner, but that’s the life of a parent lol.
The owners are friendly. The service was great. The food was worth every penny! The outside seating, on a nice day, allows for great views of the Columbia, in a park setting. Weathers bad? You can eat inside the new Mountain Timber Market. It really is perfect!
In conclusion, my ONLY COMPLAINT is that the ribs aren’t available 7 days a week, though with 2 college educations to pay for, it’s probably better that they’re not.
Everything was absolutely amazing!!!! ⭐️
We will be making the drive back down again for more!!
