We are a small independent restaurant serving Thai comfort food in lovely Bury St Edmunds, the historic market and cathedral town often described as a Jewel in the Crown of Suffolk. You will find us tucked away on St John’s Street, a short walk from the Buttermarket and Cornhill, the commercial heart of Bury, and a stone’s throw from The Bushel, a popular pub and hotel by Greene King Inns. In September 2025, we had the honour of winning a Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Award for the third year in a row, which places us in the top 10% of restaurants worldwide listed on its website. Thank you so very much to all our guests who took the time to leave such positive reviews that helped us earn this accolade.

The food itself is exceptional. Every dish tastes freshly made, full of bold flavours and authentic Thai character. You can tell a lot of care goes into the cooking, from the balance of spices to the presentation. The ingredients tasted fresh, the portions were generous, and the quality was consistently high across everything we ordered. It’s the sort of place where you can try something new each time and trust it will be good.
Overall, Zap Thai is easily one of the best places to eat in Bury St Edmunds. Great food, great people, and a great experience every time. Highly recommended.
Good for takeaway or to eat in. If you’re eating in it is a good idea to book as they do get busy particularly on Friday and weekends.
The food is smashing, it’s authentic Thai food, the pad Thai hits all the right spots. We had the massaman beef and it had so much beef and flavour we ended up taking half of it home! The coconut rice is amazing and the sticky rice is perfect – always get sticky rice if you’re getting a curry!
And the food— every dish tastes like it’s been prepared with love, tradition, and respect for authentic Thai flavours. You can taste the care that goes into everything coming out of that kitchen. I highly recommend the mixed starters and the pad thai.
It’s rare to find a place that feels this personal and this delicious at the same time. Pom has created something truly special. If you’re looking for authentic Thai food served by someone who genuinely loves sharing it, this is the place you’ll want to keep coming back to.
Ordered takeaway from this lovely restaurant.
Moo-Ping (Pork Skewers) : The taste is so authentic and very delicious. Had this dish with sticky rice which reminded me the time I was in Thailand
Fish cake : They made it in their kitchen not the frozen one. It was so good
Warm welcome from the owners.
Good atmosphere.
The food was absolutely delicious, full of flavour and beautifully presented throughout. Every dish was fresh, authentic and cooked to perfection. The communication beforehand was also excellent, which made everything so easy to arrange.
What really made the evening special was the incredible service. The team were so friendly and kind, and they truly went out of their way to make it memorable. There was a birthday balloon on the table, I was treated to a glass of Prosecco, and they surprised me with birthday cakes at the end. Such thoughtful touches that meant so much.
We honestly cannot fault them and will definitely be back. Highly recommend, especially for a special occasion.
Everything is properly fresh and absolutely authentic as you’ll get without a flight half way around the globe.
I had the fish cakes, panko crumb prawns, satay chicken and a cashew chicken with egg fried rice. Absolutely divine!
A very warm welcome and nothing seemed to be too much here.
Definitely worth a visit and I shall return.
