Brought the grandkids to Rita’s tonight and it was just delicious. The two girls, Kayla and Hannah, were so nice and helpful. The ice and custard were the best quality Rita’s I’ve ever had (and I’ve been to many Rita’s! ). The girls got the ice cream out to us before we could even get to the next window!! Both inside and outside were so clean it was unbelievable. Overall amazing experience and very delicious ice cream!

Rita’s is one of those classic places that’s always a good idea — especially when you need something cold, refreshing, and guaranteed to put you in a better mood. If you’re in the area and you want a quick treat that feels like a mini-yom-tov, this is the spot.

The Italian ice is the main ikkar — super smooth, refreshing, and comes in a million flavors, so everyone can find something. Whether you like the fruity ones, the sour ones, or the more “dessert-y” flavors, it’s always consistent and hits the spot. And when it’s hot outside? Forget it — one cup and you feel like you just got revived.

The frozen custard is also really good — creamy, rich, and perfect when you want something a little more filling. And if you’re getting a gelati (mixing the ice with custard), that’s basically the best of both worlds. You go in thinking you’ll get “something small,” and then you remember you’re at Rita’s and you order like you’re preparing for a whole summer.

Service is usually quick and friendly, and even when there’s a line, it moves pretty fast. It’s a simple place, no fancy nonsense — just solid desserts done right.

One note: I saw it listed as temporarily closed right now — hopefully it reopens soon, because it’s definitely one of those places you miss once it’s not available.

Bottom line: Rita’s is reliable, delicious, and the perfect stop for Italian ice, custard, or a gelati. Highly recommended — and may we only have sweet things!

I just went to this location and was very disappointed. The Italian ice was very chunky and the custard was very thin and tasteless. The only difference that made sense to me was this location is Kosher. There is a difference in the taste of kosher and non kosher ice cream. So before going to this location just be aware that it does not taste like regular Rita’s. Do not waste your time if you are looking for that authentic Rita’s thick and creamy custard taste.

I don’t know WHAT is wrong with this location. Rita’s is consistent across locations normally. The custard here was not creamy and tasted like plain milk. The ice was chunky and stale tasting with extreme artificial sugar flavor. It’s like off brand Rita’s. Hardly even ate any of what I got, and still felt sick afterwards, like I drank spoiled milk. Save your time and go to a different location.

I love this place. The girls behind the counter were so nice to me and my family. The ice is delicious. Try the Swedish Fish flavored ice. Amazing. The custard is also great. Get an ice with a scoop of custard on top. Prices are reasonable. I love this place. Highly recommend it.

Haven’t been here in a while so decided to bring out of town friends here. And wow! This place is horrible!!

First of all, run by teenagers which all ice cream shops are but these two were the most dull, flat people. Forget the fact they had their AirPods on and the lack customer service but they have no common sense. One of the ice cream cones was sitting there on the counter melting while they were getting all the items together.

The biggest thing, seems like one of their machines is broken or something because that custard should be illegal. Someone’s going to get sick. It was grainy and sour, looked like cottage cheese

When I went to the counter to tell the girl, I got blank stares then was told it was fresh from this morning. Girl, it can go bad still! I’m trying to show her how clumpy and gross it was but she was just not having it. I dont know what I was expecting but the lack of any response, I may have to escalate this situation if someone in my family gets sick from this.

Beyond horrible experience we had today. The Sunday crew was rude, smelt like weed, and was very immature. Sad to say this place is going down hill fast.

3 families walked away including us because of the customer service and fear of them being under the influence of something when you can tell every-time they opened the window a strong odor of weed was present. Won’t ever come back.

I came with my 2 daughters along with a friend and her children to eat ice cream on Saturday night.
Let’s start with the fact that the air conditioner in the place did not work and it was terribly hot.
We ordered 3 types of ice cream with different flavors, we waited over 20 (!!) minutes until the ice cream was ready, when we received the order we tried to understand what flavor each ice cream was and to our surprise it turned out that all three ice creams had the same flavor and instead of apologizing, the store clerk explained to me that the flavors are very similar and therefore I can’t tell them apart ( I ordered, cake batter, salted caramel and black cherry..).
Just a complete disgrace, I will not return to this store again.

We stopped at the Rita’s Rte 9, Toms River for a Gelato and cone. They didn’t have chocolate Italian ice, so we bought two large vanilla custard cones. Spent $16.95. The color was a pale yellow, the consistency was that of poor quality ice cream and there was an after taste. Tried calling to speak to the manager…voice mail. This is not the first time I’ve been disappointed with this location.
Will not be stopping there again. The Rita’s in the Ocean County Mall is far superior.

Prices have basically doubled. Be warned. Two ice creams for kids was almost 25$. Pup cups are now charged. There’s great homemade ice cream places all over Tom’s River that make everything from scratch and are way cheaper. Staff not trained well and not fully familiar with their own menu. This will probably be our last stop at Rita’s for some time. Disappointing as it was only minutes from our home. Oh well
