I stopped into this little out-of-the-way Mexican spot on Little Creek Road before heading into the thrift store. It is a tiny place, only four booths and a counter, but very clean with a simple, pleasant atmosphere. There was just one other family dining. The gentleman working the counter was extremely polite and addressed me as “Señora,” which I appreciated.

I ordered the shrimp salad, which was listed at 12.99, and a canned Brisk tea (a bit unusual in the South). I wasn’t offered chips and salsa, which surprised me, but I didn’t mind too much. I asked about black beans and learned they only had refried. He explained them to me as if I might not have had them before, then kindly offered to bring me a taste.

The salad itself was very fresh and came with avocado, lettuce, tomato, radish, green pepper, and lime. It wasn’t served in a tortilla bowl and didn’t come with chips, which is unusual for this dish, so I’m noting it. There were seven large shrimp, all nicely prepared. The small side of refried beans he brought was fine, and he told me to just leave them if I didn’t like them.

Everything was going well until the check arrived. My total came to $25, which genuinely surprised me. The salad was charged at 15.99, the beans at 3.50, the can of Brisk added on, and then an additional 2.50 service charge. I wasn’t sure if that was considered the tip, but since it was less than twenty percent, I added 2.50 to bring it to five dollars.

I enjoyed the food, the cleanliness, and the friendliness, but the unexpected pricing and the service charge did take me by surprise. I still want this business to succeed because there’s a lot to like here, but I think transparency on pricing and charges would go a long way.

Steak Fajitas this time in. Flavor was on point and they came out sizzling hot! Refried beans are by far are the best I’ve had yet in the Tidewater area, as well, the woman working was so nice.

The red sauce packs some heat alright!! Wepa!!

I aim to try the entire menu!

Ok where to start..ill start by talking about the authenticity. I grew up in Mexico city and look for specific flavors whenever tasting new Mexican restaurants. This place has it. The food is amazing and delicious. The staff is very warm and friendly. In my first visit I had the huaraches which were a perfect size (one is enough). This time around I had the chilaquiles with carne. Again the sauce is perfect. I can not recommend this place enough.

Mi Pueblo is authentic and very good. Be ready for a small staff and no public restrooms. That said, this is one of my top three Mexican restaurants in southeast Virginia.

I am from Mexico city and I have to say, after living in Norfolk for 5 years I have not tried pastor tacos that taste like the real deal until now, thanks to Mi Pueblo! The pozole was delicious too.

WOW!! Writing this as I’m finishing up my meal because it’s that good. As a Mexican & Los Angeles native, it’s been a struggle to find any Mexican place that I enjoy but I decided to give Mi Pueblo a try. I ordered a sope with carne asada & am absolutely blown away at how good it is. I can definitively say this is the BEST sope I’ve had on the east coast. It was made to order and was piping hot (pretty much burned my mouth while eating it but I did not care one bit). I added their salsa roja to kick the whole thing up a notch. The only thing I’d change for next time is asking for no sour cream, but that’s a personal preference. I can’t wait to try the rest of the menu!

I also need to shout out the owner! I was greeted with so much warmth and kindness. You must must try!

I was wrong in assuming that since I was so far from my southern border town of el paso tx that I wouldn’t be able to find anything close to it food wise and of course yet again I’m proved wrong. This place is pricey but extremely delicious. give it a try.

Me and my roommate went to this fine established authentic Mexican food place when after a long ride all over town searching for good Mexican food proved to be unsuccessful, we had gone by a few other so called “Mexican food places but mostly they didn’t seem to understand what we meant when we asked for the credibility of the food, the conversations at the other places went something like this but was actually much briefer:

Me: Yeah, you have tacos here? Are they Mexican tacos or just regular tacos? I mean, do you have chili in them and things like that?

Waitress: We have cheese and lettuce, and we have sauce, you know, put on them.

Me: I mean do you guarantee that they are authentic Mexican tacos?

Waitress:… I don’t know. Hey mark, do we have authentic Mexican tacos?

man’s voice from kitchen: What?

Waitress: Authentic Mexican tacos.

Mark: We have tacos. I don’t know how Mexican they are.

Me: Yeah, well, I just want to make sure I get what I’m paying for. ‘Cause they’re five for
a dollar.

After searching for a long time we came across this place and they delivered as promised on the authenticity of the Mexican tacos. 10/10

Also the horchata was pretty good.
