Me and my daughter ate here for the first time last week. She had never had any sort of Indian food before and had no idea what to order. The girl at the restaurant was soooo informative and explained everything to her and was so patient. Once we got our meals they were hot and very flavorful. Neither one of us could finish everything and we stayed full for the rest of the afternoon.

Choolah left me underwhelmed. The restaurant had a vibrant atmosphere, and the staff was friendly, but the food was a letdown. The flavors were muddled and lacked the distinct spices that make Indian cuisine so special.

While the concept of build-your-own bowls is interesting, the execution fell short. The food lacked flavor and the ingredients seemed bland. I tried a variety of toppings and sauces, but nothing really stood out. The portion sizes were also quite small for the price. Definitely pricey!

I wouldn’t consider it a top choice for Indian food in the area. I used to love Choolah, but I don’t think I’ll be going back again.

I ordered through DoorDash and my food was promptly made and quickly delivered.

I ordered the Choolaah bowl with half white rice and half greens. I added spicy chicken and tikka masala sauce on the side, along with their Ouch hot sauce. The portion size could’ve been bigger, especially if I had ordered a full rice bowl. It would’ve needed more chicken and more sauce, and there weren’t many greens considering it was half of the bowl.

The spicy chicken wasn’t overly hot, but the ouch hot sauce had a fantastic sting to it. The tikka masala had a different flavor than I’ve had before, but it was good.

While it was a good lunch, I probably would not order here again. Nothing was particularly “stand out”, and I’m honestly left a little hungry.

The food, the staff, the place, the atmosphere, everything is more than 5 stars. I always enjoy having a meal here. Whether it’s something quick for on the go or sitting down and taking my time, there’s a good meal available on the menu. I always look forward to trying a new sauce or mixing them up! The ice cream is truly delicious!!

Let me tell you about my experience. I walked in not knowing what to Expect… The menu was a bit intimidating for an amateur in the Indian Food. I shook my head and started heading to the door. Gracie stopped and asked if I needed anything, I said the menu was a big overwhelming and I was probably gonna head next door. She asked if I wanted her to walk me through the Menu, which I agreed. I am very happy that she stopped me from walking out the door. She talked me into a meal, and it was beyond expectations. I will be back, and I’m bringing friends!

For a fast food spot I was incredibly impressed at how they were able to pack such an enormous amount of explosive flavors into a dish in such a short amount of time! I’ve come to really love and appreciate Indian food this year, and Choolaah delivers! The Mango Lemonade is amazing!!!!

Ordered delivery through Uber. We were appalled at the difference in portion sizes between the two Choolaah bowls. My husband ordered chicken with rice and I ordered paneer with half brown rice and half super greens. Just because I ordered the “healthy” option doesn’t mean I want less food overall. If it’s the same “bowl” at the same price, there should be the same amount of food. Plus the “super greens” were mostly just sad lettuce. Portions aside, the bowls tasted mediocre.

We also ordered samosas and naan. I can’t comment on the naan because they forgot to put it in the bag even though they marked it on the order slip. The samosas were soggy and flavorless, and we threw the last one in the trash. We’ve had better samosas from the Aldi freezer aisle.

Obviously I don’t expect Choolaah to be on the same level as Udipi, Tamarind, or Taj Mahal, but this experience fell short of even my lowest expectations.

Do better.

I was disappointed with my recent experience here. For a price of $10.99 for each bowl, the portion of rice served was surprisingly small. I expected a more filling meal for the cost, but it felt like I was paying more than what I received in terms of quantity. Not a great value for money, and I wouldn’t recommend this place.

It was inevitable that someone would take Indian food and give it the Chipotle treatment. That is what this chain is. You walk in and have a limited selection of bowls and wraps to choose from. You build your own from their selection of fillers and proteins, sides and so forth. While the combinations you can come up with give you a fair amount of variety, anyone who is familiar with Indian food will recognize how limited this approach truly is.

Of more importance though is whether the food tastes good. Here, the results were mixed. Some of the dishes we tried had the right flavors – although milder than we prefer – while others were really lacking. For instance, we tried the Paneer as one of our proteins and it was really not seasoned almost at all. They do give you one of their sauces to pour over the bowl, but those were not quite matched to the food – for instance a Mexican hot sauce?

There are good things, for sure. They do maintain tandoor ovens and as we waited for our food, we saw them cook the naan in the proper manner. The naans were a little thin, but they did use salted butter and onion seeds on them, so they were very tasty. The staff was exceedingly helpful – they knew their menu, knew what to recommend, and addressed every request promptly and politely.

One final note, prices are high, but this is very filling food. We ended up spending $36 for two meals, which ended up being three.
