What an awesome place to stop, relax & refuel after hiking around Starved Rock. Bruce & Ollies has a cozy little feel. They have a lot to choose from as well. Whether you want Ice cream, a warm drink, soup, salad or a sandwich, they have it all! Beautifully decorated & many pictures on display of Starved Rock. They even had prints you could purchase and other great items to buy. This is my new favorite place when I hike. I visited for the first time on Halloween, and it wasn’t busy at all. Very quiet and relaxing. I came back a few days later after chasing fall colors at their peak, and the experience was just as great. Much busier the 2nd time.
My first visit I tried a lotus energy drink, cold Italian sandwich, pasta salad as the side & a small black bean soup. Everything tasted fresh and full of flavor. I will say, the lotus drink did give me quite the pick me up! I didn’t take into consideration that it was 6:30, and I probably shouldn’t drink that late in the day, but it was still refreshing and sounded like a nice rejuvenation after a 6 mile hike!
The second visit I tried the Italian sandwich (hot as they suggested), pasta salad, tomato soup and a hot apple cider. Both times were fabulous. The service was quick, and the employees were very nice and helpful on both stops. Even though it was busier on my second trip, it was still a quiet environment. I was even able to sit and journal. Thanks again for the wonderful experiences. I hope to be back after my next hiking adventure.

Bruce & Ollie’s is truly one of our favorite spots. Their specialty coffees are so good (like… think about them later good), the food is always fresh and delicious, and the ice cream is an instant win with kids and adults alike.

What really sets them apart though is the atmosphere — welcoming, cozy, and genuinely family-friendly. The staff is always kind, patient, and happy to help, whether you’re wrangling kids, grabbing something quick, or sitting to catch up with a friend. It’s the kind of place that makes you want to stay awhile — and keep coming back. Easily the best vibes around.

Fantastic Italian Sub on GLUTEN FREE bagel! I am staying at Starved Rock Lodge and searched for Gluten Free food near me – so glad this spot came up! I called and their friendly staff worked with me to customize the Italian Sub to be GF and Dairy free (no cheese). Was a welcoming environment with inviting spots inside to sit and enjoy their coffee, ice-cream or deli items. Their service and quality of food was top knotch! Perfect filling meal after long hikes today. I had it hot and with fruit salad side. Delicious!! Check them out!

This is my first time ever going here. I was nervous because I love my Starbucks coffee. I gave them my typical Starbucks order and they made it even BETTER THAN STARBUCKS!!! If I lived in this town this would be a daily stop!
Their breakfast is phenomenal! We got both types of breakfast casserole, sausage egg and cheese croissant and a yogurt parfait.
I’m so glad I gave this place a chance! If you’re traveling or vacationing DEFINITELY try this place out!

I recently visited Bruce & Ollie’s, and it was an absolute delight! The decor is charming and cozy, with cute accents and comfortable sofas that make you want to stay and relax for hours. The ambiance is perfect for catching up with friends or enjoying a quiet moment alone.

The coffee was outstanding, rich, and flavorful, easily one of the best I’ve had in a long time. Although I didn’t get a chance to try the ice cream this time, it looked delicious, and I can’t wait to go back and sample it on my next visit.

Overall, Bruce & Ollie’s offers a wonderful experience with its great coffee, inviting atmosphere, and delightful decor. I highly recommend stopping by if you’re in the area!

Absolutely loved this little coffee shop gem!! It was a relaxing and quiet space to work for the day. In addition to the smoothie and river krispie treat, I also got a caprese naan flatbread (forgot to take a picture) which was delicious. Friendly and fast service, too!

Sandwich and salad were tasty and fresh!!! Really enjoyed the atmosphere and all the menu options. Only small issue I personally experienced was I paid for added vanilla syrup for my matcha and found out after leaving it tasted like completely plain matcha.

What great little place to hangout with friends, or even by yourself.
The staff is very friendly and helpful with assisting you with making the right choice with your ice cream flavor.
The atmosphere is phenomenally relaxing and laid back.
They have a good selecting of ice cream, teas, coffee and a couple of sandwiches.
The place is nicely decorated and open with a counter, tables and some sofa chairs centered around the fireplace.
They also have a small outdoor patio outside in back of the building as well as some additional seating options in front.
I only had ice cream and I was pleasantly surprised at the quality.
I can’t wait to come back and try the rest of the menu.

This is such a cute sweet (literally) spot to stop on your way to or from Starved Rock or Matthiessen State Parks. The ice creams are incredible (we tastetested several!), the atmosphere is fun and bright and relaxing. Had it been later in the day we definitely would’ve tried out some of the wine and cocktails.
