Sophisticated coffee Cafe (try the Campfire latte that starts with a base of smoked espresso with caramel! ) in a high-ceilinged, urban-clean renovated building. Owners Tim & Denise offer freshly prepared drinks & food. Unobtrusive background music & widely spaced seating makes this a great place for a conversation.

Stopped in for a coffee and was surprised to see a soup and sandwich menu. Coffee can be my lunch but my wife needs something more substantial to keep her running. Perfect! I ordered a latte and she got the potato soup with toast. Friendly service, plenty of staff, and the place is pretty big. My wife checked out the merch while we waited on the food and she ended up with a new scarf. Cool place, good vibe, neat little town square.

My family and I were here on vacation and came here several times for breakfast and our morning coffee! The headless horseman drink is a 10/10 recommendation as well as the steak croissant and avocado toast! I am gluten free and they had a gluten free bread option as well. The atmosphere is great and staff is friendly. Wish I lived here, I’d come every day!

A chic place in the small city of Winchester, TN. Cool location in a historical building in the center of town. My turkey peso sandwich was delicious then I split my half for a roast beef with horseradish sandwich, yummier. Sweet topping with a chai latte, very nice

We were there Sat. morning and you could tell it was a popular place. The coffee options were limited, but they were well made. They have some very interesting specialty coffees where they make there own caramel. I would recommend stopping here for a coffee and the atmosphere.

My husband and I went here for the first time today for a coffee date. We were very surprised at how big and beautiful it is on the inside. We had a nice and relaxing time. We definitely will be going back. My latte and his flat white were delicious.

The place is always busy and loud for a coffee house. They have they atmosphere set up where you can work our study, but it’s always loud and crowded to where you can’t find a place to sit and work/study. When we hold meetings someone has to go ahead of us and find a place and sit until we all get there so we all have a table.

The menu is pretty pricey for anyone who wants to know that’s never been. I go on occasion for meetings, other than that I choose not to go.

It is not a place for people on a budget to go have a decent breakfast and coffee. You’re better off going to your local cafe or staying home.

If your wanting to study and work, your better off going to your local library, or cafe. I’ve seen other local cafes a lot more quieter than that. They also changed things since the last time I was there. They removed couches and comfortable chairs. I also didn’t see the fire place that gave the cozy feeling.

I love that they have great quality gluten-free bread. Also have a few tables outside in the back of the building. Finally! Someone has figured out that we don’t want to sit right by the noisy traffic! Also. The person that took my order was very knowledgeable about the money. That’s always a big plus

UPDATE (2/24/2026): I have double checked the menu and checked their online menus, and I still do not see a cappuccino or cortado, etc. Maybe I’m missing something. I also attached a photo of the in-store menu. If they do have smaller espresso drinks, their menu does not show it.

Original review:

Overall, Walnut Hill is a great business. They are right in the heart of Winchester and the community obviously loves them. I’ve heard only amazing things about their food. The atmosphere is great.

My issues is with the coffee. From everything on social media, they look like they want to be a specialty or craft coffee shop. Their Slayer espresso machine, the specialty grinders, etc. They have everything in place to serve specialty coffee. But they do not. This is not a craft coffee shop. The smallest drink on their menu is 12 oz. No cappuccino, no cortado, nothing of the sort. I have a 6 oz mug I use for Capps and flat whites. I asked if they could pull a shot and steam milk and just charge me for a latte. They said they could not. Then when I asked if they could make a latte and just fill it half way, the cashier started giving me attitude for asking for something that is objectively very easy to do. When I picked up my drink, the barista was rude when I asked about which drink was mine or my wife’s.

All this to say: If you have all the equipment necessary to make the full spectrum of specialty coffee items, why wouldn’t you?

My consensus is this: Walnut Hill is a cafe that serves dessert coffee and really great food. If that’s what you’re looking for, check them out. You won’t be disappointed. But if you’re looking for specialty coffee and baristas who understand coffee, look elsewhere.
