The City Barbecue is definitely top 3 of my favorite BBQ Joints. We were greeted with nothing but kindness by the staff and served with gratitude. We were checked up on and made sure to let them know of any issues. I had none! Tons of sauces to choose from, and a whole self service out of a toolbox! How cool is that?! As a handyman myself, this is very clever!
I highly recommend you guys give it a shot, you won’t regret it.
The wings were fantastic, pork ribs were soft and tasted just as expected. Mac and cheese, potato salad, and cornbread pudding were to die for. The side salad was crunchy and fresh, definitely give that a shot as well. Now, the banana pudding and chocolate cake are heavenly treats! You definitely have to try those.
Overall my experience here was amazing. Nothing but smiles and full bellies here!

7/14/2024: Arrived around noon. Fairly empty (early). We ordered our food and they brought it to our table. There is a beverage station where you get your own drinks. Iced tea (sweet & unsweetened) & soda were available. There are a few different sauces to choose from. In the same area, you’ll find plates and silverware available for use as well.
The ribs were tender and juicy with an excellent flavor. The brisket was a little on the dry side, but had a good flavor as well. You have a few sauces to choose from to moisten it up.
The Nashville Chicken (wings) were a little overcooked and dry; however, they had a good flavor as well (add some sauce to moisten them up as well).
The green beans, potato salad, and coleslaw was a little on the sweet side. The greens with pork and the Texas toast were outstanding.
We enjoyed the music that was playing in the background. It went well with the BBQ theme.
Overall, it was a pleasant experience. The food was good and was priced reasonable. Will go back again soon to try other items.

The BBQ is tender and the sides are tasty! I came today because of the pork belly burnt ends. It’s a special they are serving to August. They were worth the visit!

Great place for very good barbecue. This was our first visit, and we didn’t expect that this was counter service like Corner Bakery/Panera/Mission BBQ. That was a surprise but no dings for this. Large menu of options which is a plus. Finally settled on a sampler platter of pulled pork, brisket and ribs. Wow, the food is so tasty! Ribs were almost, brisket was tender, and the pork was moist and delicious. Smokiness was not overpowering or fake. Multiple choices for sauces but we thought the original recipe was the best. And the prices were reasonable. This might not compete with the very best BBQ places in Lake County, but based on their prices, the value puts this at the top of the list.

First time going and was very good. Food was fresh with great flavor. We got the new chicken sandwich and 2 item combo with sides. The corn pudding and baked beans A+ great if you like veggies. The mac-n-cheese was very bland. The brisket and ribs were super good. Staff was very nice and a nice restaurant in general.

The food was okay but most of it was cold including the chicken. The Mac and cheese was mediocre at best. Nowhere near the level of Panera or Noodles and Company. The fries however were salted and seasoned well and had good flavor. The Texas toast was good but tastes more like garlic bread. If you’re looking specifically for Texas toast raising Cane’s is the way to go. They also messed up our order with not many customers there at the time which was frustrating but they did make sure to fix it.

After a long day of work on a Monday September 18th at that, it’s always super refreshing to experience great customer service. This place was a 10/10, it featured a very diverse staff that were all welcoming and catered to making this experience memorable. Each worker took extra time making sure to give me everything I needed to make my meal enjoyable. I never do reviews but someone has to see this please go here I promise it feels just like home.

Best thing on the menu is the pulled pork sandwich with coleslaw on Texas toast. Nashville spy chicken sandwich is not bad. Brisket is very dry at this location and the Northbrook location.
