Visited here on 5/31 (a Friday evening). Place wasn’t too busy which even the waiter said is a bit unusual as we were seated right away. Wife and I both ordered a specialized drink which both were unique and tasty.
We didn’t have an appetizer as wanted dessert. Wife ordered the sliders and a cup of the ham and potato soup. The soup was decent and the sliders had mushrooms which was not expected (can’t recall if noted on the menu as the online menu doesn’t match what was in the restaurant).
I ordered the pork chop with apple chutney. Pork chop is bone in and had some char on it but was not overly cooked. The chutney was ok and the smashed potatoes were a bit dry.
We wanted dessert but they had run out of cake, they did not even have the famous Guinness Chocolate Cake (surprised for early on a Friday evening).
For me I was underwhelmed after reading other reviews, maybe I hit it on an off night? Fortunately a lot of other places to try in Excelsior.

First time here for dinner on a Saturday night. Super busy but we had reservations and got sat right away. Initially server seemed to busy and food took a bit to show up but was so worth the wait. Picture is of the lamb shank served in butternut squash in an onion gravy. It was amazing. Also had brussel sprouts with pancheta that were very good. Very cool place inside. We will be back for sure

Celebrated my wife’s 40th birthday at Jake’s this last weekend! We had 30+ people join us in the basement bar area. Dermot was great to work with, he set us up in the perfect spot. Tim our bartender was fantastic and tended to all of our food and drink needs.

This place is fantastic. The Guinness pours are perfect as are the fish and chips. I live in Arizona but when I come and visit Minnesota is place is a must to stop. The Shepard’s pie is excellent as well.

I was pleasantly surprised with the food here.
We were a bit unlucky I guess that the day we went they only had a special “race day” menu. I believe it was a St Paddy’s day race.
The corned beef and hash was really good though.
Their beer selection is great and they serve each beer on their matching glass – a nice touch!
Service was decent, no complaints.

Upstairs is a restaurant (which we have yet to try), and downstairs is more of a pub style setting bar. Absolutely loved it! I’ve been looking for a pub style bar for awhile now and I’m very glad I found this gem! Definitely an outstanding atmosphere. The food drinks are also great! Had a lamb shank with a pint of Guinness, and it was fantastic to say the least. If you’re looking for that old Irish feel, this is definitely the place to go.

Classic Irish pub. I love the decor, stained glass with cool crests, Guinness signs and mirrors, very neat. Really enjoyed the drink selection, taps were a decent running of brews. I’ve not yet had the food but someone in my party had pork wings and said they were insanely tasty. I look forward to going back and at the very least getting those. Stop in for a pint and a bite, it’s worth it.

Atmosphere was nice. Waiter did a good job other than he didn’t know the fried chicken was boneless. We were limited to the brunch menu today. But the smoked trout was yummy and braised beef short ribs was tasty.

I love this restaurant because of the good food and friendly staff. I’ve been here twice, and both times they did an absolutely fantastic job. It’s a cozy atmosphere, the booths are separated by glass partitions. I really like this because you don’t get people turning around to watch you eat. The food has been phenomenal every time. Would definitely recommend.

I went to Jake O’Connor’s on a whim, not knowing what to expect. It looked great from the outside and was even better on the inside. Inside it was beautifully furnished with a warm ambiance that made me feel as if I was in of some of the best restaurants including Lawrys Restaurants, Flemings, and Morton’s. The food was GREAT! I ordered the fish and chips. The beer batter they make and use is the best I’ve had. I also loved the tarter sauce, which was flavorful and somewhat savory, not like some that look and taste like a quick mix of mayonnaise with sweet pickle relish and declared “Tarter Sauce.” To go with my fish and chips, I ordered a local craft ale, XLCR Pale Ale, which I will order again. I splurged and had dessert, a triple berry tart which came with a small scoop of ice cream on top.(I don’t remember the exact name of the item) cream. It was small but just sweet enough to be the perfect dessert.

The service was excellent.

I definitely see this restaurant as deserving five stars. If there were six, it would have gotten six stars.
