Reviews
Still, I know it’s transcendent. I’ve heard the bread alone has ruined other restaurants for people. Friends return glassy-eyed, whispering about their entree that bent reality and a dessert that “completed their life.” One person said the first course changed them.
I refresh the reservation page like it’s a stock ticker. Until I finally get inside, I will continue reviewing Bar.Ter exclusively through legend, envy, and emotional damage.
The Suspense: The incognito chef is a master of suspense. Throughout the meal, you catch glimpses of a small, shadowed figure behind the kitchen door. The tension is palpable. You know he is 9 years old, but what will he serve? The mystery is the aperitif.
There is no menu. At Bar.ter, you don’t order. You surrender. With near zero knowledge of what’s coming, I wondered if it would be a deconstructed PB&J, an artisanal dinosaur nugget paired with a Capri Sun reduction, or something entirely different? You won’t know until it hits the table. In our case, the vegetarian soup, and homemade biscuits boasted a sophistication far beyond what I might have imagined from a staff with a collective age <27.
The most revolutionary part? Your money is worthless here. The Maître d’ could not care less about your Black Amex, but he may accept legos, pokemon, or origami paper.
Bottom line: Strong Five stars. It’s a vision for how the world should work, and dining at Bar.ter will both fill your belly and restore your faith in the future of humankind.
