Definitely not shiny, definitely great food, this is a place where you can be yourself and enjoy the time passing by. Ordered a Cheeseburger and fries with grilled onions and fried mushrooms. All good!! Especially the pototao salad. Mmmm. I’ll be back. Love this area. It’s the kind of spot where locals hang out and everyone seems to know each other.

Iowa Buffet has been on my Yelp Bookmarks, for many years and I’ve finally visited. Let me begin by telling you it is definitely not in Iowa. It’s not even on Iowa Avenue, it’s at the corner of Iowa and Winnebago. Also, it’s not a buffet. Its name is all a lie.
What it truly is, is a diehard dive bar. If Bette Davis walked in she’d say, “What a dump.” The decor is totally tacky and that is part of its charm. Another part of its charm is the welcoming atmosphere. When we entered not only did the bartender say, but so did a couple of the guest already seated at the bar.
When reading the menu for your first time, you’ll be shocked at low-low prices. Our plan was to have cheeseburgers and fries, but once we saw the pricing, we added wings as an appetizer. We had our wings, plain with Bleu Cheese for dipping. We received 6 pieces, 3 flats and 3 drums. I like it when the chicken pieces are the same quantity. They were super crispy and seasoned with only pepper and salt.
I built my own cheeseburger. As my cheese, I chose Pepper Jack and added raw onion and jalapeños as garnishes. To make it perfect, all I had to add was ketchup and mustard. My dining partner enjoyed a Hank Burger, but changed the cheese from American to Pepper Jack. We both gave our burgers a thumbs up.
Our adult beverage was Vodka and Club Soda. When the bartender brought us our drinks, at first we thought they were glasses of water. Yep, the cocktails were made in huge water glasses and they were strong. It’s exactly what I’d expect from a dive bar.
If you’re on a tight budget and want to out, head over to Iowa Buffet for a budget friendly fun time. Good food and strong cocktails on the cheap.

Fair prices. Quintessential dive bar with good food as an added bonus. Its a smaller place so bear that in mind if you show up with a large group.
The bartender informed us that their old grill was down (the grill from the 1950s that everyone talks about here) but they were still able to cook the food. The bartender was also the same one cooking so he was really hustling to get everything done. We appreciated his effort- the service was great.
I had the double Chipotle burger. It was thick and cooked just right. Onion rings were good too.
The drinks were cold as well.
We used a gift certificate from Fox News (local news) and there was some back and forth about the certificate but in the end we got it sorted.
Solid food, cold drinks and a legitimate dive bar atmosphere. Will be going back!

Earlier this week in STL I stopped by Iowa Buffet. This is a dive bar. The beer was cold. The burgers and fries were hot. Everything was good. Our waitress was great. She was stressed dye to them cleaning the grill the night before and a guy had to come turn the gas back on and light the pilot lights. We weren’t in any hurry so it didn’t bother us a bit. We had about 90 minutes to kill and this was a great spot to do it. If you are looking for a dive bars with a diverse customer base this is a great spot.

Best burger I’ve ever had in my 22 years of living.
I would make a trip to St. Louis just to get another!
The Bartender was nice just very busy. There was only one bartender so if you decide to stop by make sure to have some patience and tip good.
They said the secret is in the grill they use there is only 3 of them in St. Louis and I think he said they have them all. Trust me it’s amazing worth your time and money.

I love dive bars, but don’t recommend this one. The burgers and fries were just okay. The drinks were weak, and my gin and tonic was made with an old, pre-opened bottle of tonic that had completely gone flat. No good bartender would serve that. Many bottles behind the bar were absolutely covered with dust, just a bit too gross for me. We won’t be back.

IF YOU’RE ONE OF THOSE PEOPLE THAT HAS BEEN PASSING THIS BAR FOR TOO LONG, Just go inside 🙂 I really don’t even want to tell people about this hidden gem because I don’t want it to get too busy for me lol BUT this bar has that PERFECT hole in the wall, dive bar feel. Good convo with the bartender, drinks that are a good bang for your buck, and no-frills bar bites that are easy to knock back. The bartender also has EXCELLENT taste. Ask her about a tequila rose + chocolate crown royal.. ohh my goodness. Or for the simpler kind, blackberry crown and lemonade

We didnt eat, but the food smelled AMAZING and I saw what the people next to us ordered and it was a HUGE BBQ pork steak. Drinks were strong. Bartender was really nice but seemed a bit overwhelmed. It was dirty, but the areas where food were made looked clean.

I would never step foot in that place again. Give them a try due to me seeing them on Fox 2. 1st off, they have a dog just running around bothering people while they’re ruing to eat, how nasty. Then the lady taken my order (Said she was the owner) tried to deny me from using the coupon I got off Fox 2. After I pointed it out she allowed me to use it.
I received my food in a dirty save a lot grocery bag that actually had left over trash in it with my food. THIS PLACE IS HORRIBLE. I will be contacting Fox 2, letting them know why type of establishment they are promoting
