This was my second visit to Joe Louis Southern Kitchen on Northwestern Highway, and it definitely did not disappoint. I ordered the Joe Louis Favorite breakfast, which comes with country fried steak, eggs, potatoes, and biscuits. I thought I knew what I was getting… but when they brought the plate out, I was genuinely surprised.
Instead of what I expected, there was a huge piece of perfectly cooked chicken smothered in gravy—and it was absolutely amazing. Everything on the plate was flavorful, filling, and cooked just right. The portions are no joke, and the food is comfort food at its finest.
On top of that, the service was excellent—friendly, attentive, and welcoming. I left completely stuffed and happy. In fact, I was so full that when I went back to work, I struggled to stay awake because of how much I ate (in the best way possible!).
I’ll definitely be coming back again—maybe just not on a workday lunch break next time. Highly recommend!

My daughter and I tried this restaurant and the service was very good. Reigny was our server she was very friendly and attentive. The food was excellent, the strawberry lemonade was very good with fresh strawberries and blueberries. I had Martha’s Seafood Skillet, there was plenty of salmon and shrimp the potatoes were seasoned to perfection. My daughter had the pancakes and turkey bacon which she also devoured. This place is a 10/10, I highly recommend. *One piece of advice is get there as soon as they open they get busy really quickly.

Totally worth the hike to have breakfast. Our server Rainey was great she was timely & attentive. Breakfast biscuit with bacon and American cheese was the best call ever. Affordable but hearty the bacon is great quality. Coffe came with a carafe so I didn’t have to worry about refills and I love the vibe here. Super clean and come in let’s go if LCA is taking the Joe this is the best replacement for our local legend. Locally owned and operated and Joe Louis’s son is part owner. We came for the chicken and waffles which were good but served with wings only next time I’ll get them with chicken fingers. Authentic Detroit style soul food can’t wait to go back

Breakfast here was delicious. The turkey leg was so good smoked and fell off the bone. Pancakes, in this case the cinnamon roll ones, we’re perfect, fluffy and very tasty but not overly sweet. Chicken fried steak was very good along with the biscuits and cheesy grits. Can’t wait to go back again was very impressed. Portion sizes were great which is nice considering how much it costs to go out these days for food, very appreciated.

Our waitress was nice. The food was not good. They were out of pork bacon. I ordered chicken and waffles and the chicken was awful and had a off putting taste and the other piece looked disgusting. They did take it off my bill. My husband had French toast turkey, and eggs. He said the French toast was just ok and they eggs had an off taste. We sent the first order of eggs back because they were runny. We will visit the other location but definitely wont be back to this one. Please pay attention to the quality of your food.

This place was awful. It was an hour wait when they said 30 mins and then another 1 1/2 to get food after we ordered. The food was absolutely disgusting and didn’t have any flavor and we sent it back. Beautiful on the inside but food and service was sooooo bad

Bigger building & more extensive menu than the Woodward/Blvd location.
I was greeted/seated, immediately.
This place used to be the Lil Daddy Coney Island in this Applegate Plaza.
Newer & nicer decor!!
This new location can hold the groups that Woodward can’t.
Food & service were great!
Won’t be disappointed here.
Because of it being brand new, the wait time on sunday may be an hour.
I enjoyed my 11am breakfast on a Monday.
(Best time to be here).

I can’t rate the food because I never received a menu. I thought that I would give THIS location a try, since I had a bad experience at the Mid-Town location. I sat at the bar. My presence was never acknowledged. I was not offered a menu, glass of water, silverware, nothing. The man behind the bar never even turned around and made eye contact, just kept rolling napkins. Needless to say, I left!

I never leave reviews however this was a terrible experience. My friend and I arrived today on 2-9-26 around 12:16pm. The waitress was very rude. The restaurant was out of basically everything. The waitress bought me old coffee I didn’t say anything I just drunk it thinking maybe out waitress was super busy. Them I ask for a refill and it was COLD….. I’m like really the food was terrible my friend sent back her plate and received something else neither one of us ate our food we pick over it and left. We did leave her a very small tip because the service was so bad. At the end she ask how was our experience my friend told her she liked the other location better. She said oh that’s fine I never been there so…. My first and last time going….. And I’m in the restaurant industry. I can deal with bad food, however I can’t deal with an bad attitude…. NEVER AGAIN. My friend apologized to me for taking me there. ♀️ ♀️ ♀️ ♀️ And that’s saying a lot when she is the one who treated me.
