Incredible dinner at Bistro on Notre Dame! The ‘Lake + Steak’ platter was massive and delicious the bison and smoked mushrooms were highlights. Don’t skip the bread basket with house-made bannock! The MB Punch was the perfect local drink to wash it all down.
The quality and service are top-tier, yet the prices are very reasonable for the experience you get. Meeting the owner, very welcoming,he’spassionate. Highly recommend for great local vibes and even better food!

Quaint unique and lovely little Bistro. Local sustainable delicatesant. Excellent smiley service. Mushrooms were fantastic. Sprouts lacked luster. Meatballs and carrots needed a sauce to tie it together. Walleye mac n cheese left much to be desired… included a hard crust of cheese on the walleye too much pesto and oil.

Beautiful, warm space with amazing food and drink! I enjoyed the selection of sweet teas and would come back again and again just to try them all! We ordered the poutine, which was delicious, as well as the arctic char and soup which we enjoyed as well. So many unique menu options, it was hard to make a choice, and we look forward to coming back to try new things!

What an absolutely fabulous find. We listened to Alie Ward’s smologies episode about Indigenous Cooking on our drive to Winnipeg which primed us for the delicious, locally sourced food we experienced. For beverages we had Sangria, cream soda and a Frau Rouge. We started with the Honey Butter chips which were amazing. We also ordered the plant based polenta, Brussels with ricotta, Zaayoon soup and the walleye Mac n cheese. Everyone loved their dishes. The meat eaters thought the walleye Mac n cheese was the best. I was in love with the veggie polenta. For dessert we had the PB + Chocolate Chess Pie. Everything was delicious. We sat by the kitchen and it was amazing to see how the cooks worked in such a small space and how well they communicated with each other. The space is cozy and fun. The staff were kind and helpful.

Per the ten year old:
“The honey butter chips couldn’t have been better. For my main meal I had the walleye Mac n cheese. It was gourmet Mac n cheese with perfectly cooked fish on top and the pasta was bathed in a wonderful herby cheese sauce. Even my dad was sneaking bites of it. The PB+Chocolate Chess Pie was in scrumptious bite size pieces, the waitress even artfully arranged the spoons. Bonus there were bathrooms. We will definitely be coming back.”

Hidden in plain sight on Notre Dame, this restaurant feels like a well-kept secret whispered only among those who know where culinary brilliance hides. From the moment you step through the door, you’re wrapped in an atmosphere that’s open, airy, and inviting, with a Manitoba style.

The menu is a revelation. Each dish is a playful fusion of Métis tradition and Levant, making this one of the most unique cuisine marriages we’ve ever had. Distinctive , yet singing in perfect harmony. Even the drinks follow this narrative: pairing Prairie with Middle East.

Service? Impeccable. Attentive without hovering. And the staff genuinely seemed to love the food they were serving—always a promising sign.

Bistro on Notre Dame delivers beyond expectations.

Amazing food. Each dish is packed with flavour, a true feast for the taste buds. The presentation is just as impressive, with visually stunning plates. This is one of those places where you can tell the owners and cooks genuinely care about their customers and take pride in what they do.

There’s usually little to no wait, and while the prices may feel a bit high for those expecting an oversized plate meant to fill you up before you’re done, that’s not the case here. What you get instead is exceptional flavour, and it’s absolutely worth it.

Bistro offers a dedication to local fare that is worthy of support. I believe they source everything they reasonably can from Manitoba – inquire with the staff for full details.
Food is the most critical aspect of a restaurant, and Bistro offered very creative dishes. My friends and I tried a variety of the menu and loved items such as the soup and fries. The sandwiches were a bit dry / salty and could have been better balanced. Still, we all appreciated the use of local ingredients!
Definitely give Bistro a try! They’re made of what’s real.

We have been several times, and each time has been a delightful experience. The food is superb, featuring local ingredients and game meats. Rabbit, duck, bison, elk & pickerel are the stars here. If you have never had chess pie, bring room for dessert. We have brought friends from out of town, and go here for special occasion brunches. We’re never disappointed.

Must try: bannock (phenomenal), duck (cooked perfectly, smoky), steak & oyster mushroom (the mushroom tasted really great)

Could have been five but honey chips were burnt so it tasted bitter. The onion rings was also burnt and over battered (the batter’s seasoning didn’t also match the pickle onion). The meat platter was also dried (bison and morel are usually lean and they cooked it well-done plus they put it on a hot skillet). Otherwise I think it would have been 5 star

Took my Dad out for his Birthday Dinner last night and I could write a novel about the great experience we had at Bistro on Notre Dame.

Incredibly unique food inspired by (and sourced) local ingredients such as bison, elk, fish, wild rice, homemade jams and pickled vegetables all with a Métis twist. Everything was delicious but, I’ll definitely be dreaming of those honey butter chips

The service was impeccable and entertaining. We definitely felt like we were visiting old friends- thanks for your hospitality Rich!

The atmosphere was calm and grounding with simple decor that highlighted the rich cultural history of the plains.

The cocktails were eccentric but complimented the menu very well! Exciting combinations of fruits, herbs, spices, coffee and alcohol.

Overall, the visit exceeded all expectations and I couldn’t recommend this place enough! With all kinds of awards won and involvement in indigenous youth programming, how could you not support such an amazingly passionate business! You can definitely feel the love and see the heart that went into every detail of it.

Truly, you need to go!
