Reviews
They have fish so fresh that it melts on your tongue; rolls that are spiced with unique sauces, great portion sizes, and an attentive staff.
Personally, my favorite roll was the tiger: 3 different fish inside, wrapped in a white paper, and with the most delicious and light citrus sauce. I had 3 of those on this vist. Their muscles are freshly made and not even the slightest bit rubbery. As you can see from my pictures, their presentation is quite well done too.
As for the atmosphere, it was like walking from a chaotic day into a tranquil pond. From outside, you would never guess such a gem of a restaurant was within. I will be making this my new regular sushi place, (sorry sakana, your battleship just got sunk). If you the more traditional Japanese flavors, you will love this place. They even do hibachi dinners here! I’ve only been to one other place that even closely compares to Kissho, and that is in Venice Beach ca.
Unfortunately, I forgot to get a picture of the full sushi menu, but there are around 30 roll options.
In a nutshell, try this place out; I promise, you won’t be disappointed.
The servers are kind and attentive but it can’t save the bad food.
The atmosphere is okay, it smells odd when you walk in, almost fishy but covered up by chemical cleaners. I would suggest going elsewhere for sushi. There are several different spots in the area that know how to do sushi that deserve your business.
This place is not one of them. The shrimp not being deveined should be enough to avoid this place. That’s how people get sick.
My hat off to the chief! Making magic one dish at a time!
i dont think I would go back (especially at the price of $33 per person), but thats not to say we didnt have a nice time. i mentioned the christmas tree and was told it was not on the AYCE menu. the staff ended up just giving us one anyway which was really cool!! i actually did enjoy that roll. maybe we just ordered the wrong stuff?
Service was great, checked back often, and refilled drinks as needed.
Price point is a few dollars higher for lunch than other spots
Easy to find, it’s close to Off Broadway shoes, clear big sign, ample parking
Ambience is dark even during the day, they almost black out the windows, it would’ve been nice to have natural lighting since it was really nice today.
Food: mainly tried nigiri and one specialty roll – pacific roll. I really liked the pacific roll, nice balance of rice to fish and flavorful, although I could go without the green sauce, it was a very delicious roll, not too heavy. Fish quality is decent and shrimp is bigger than other AYCE places.
Mussels were made very simple, similar to other sushi spots in the area, see photo. Mussels are bigger than average sushi spots too
The crab mix for the upside down shrimp wasn’t to my liking, the imitation crab tasted funny, so we didn’t eat it.
Overall, too much rice so I finished fast and didn’t get to try anything else besides what is in the photo. Unfortunately I can’t give a review for the other items.
I don’t think I would come back due to the rice ratio since there’s a lot of competing AYCE spots who give a better balance.
