Tonight’s visit was unacceptable. I came in around 8:30 PM and the cashier working the front was extremely unprofessional from the moment I walked in. What should’ve been a quick stop for tacos on a Thursday, turned into the most frustrating experience. Instead of taking orders, the cashier was dancing with a customer for several minutes while we stood waiting. A man recorded them as they sang along to the extremely extremely loud music. The customer, who appeared drunk, even asked us to dance. This is completely inappropriate behavior for a restaurant that doesn’t even serve alcohol on a Thursday night. It’s a work night, I’m coming for dinner not dance.
When she finally got around to taking our order, the music was blasting so loud we could hardly hear her and had to repeat ourselves multiple times. She had no control of the environment and seemed far more focused on entertaining herself than doing her job.
She also didn’t know the menu. When we ordered dessert directly from the menu, she acted completely confused (????), and had to check with another coworker. To make matters worse, when our food came out, I discovered she hadn’t even entered my taco order at all. I then put in my taco order for the second time and continued to wait again. The tacos were awful. Check out the photos for my $19 tacos. Yes 2 tacos. For $19. That look like….. that. They were not edible.

the homemade chips were honestly the highlight! loved the al pastor tacos as well, though they sure cook everything in a river of oil. taco tuesday is the best deal

The tacos were delicious but a little too greasy. Everything was seasoned well and the agua de Jamaica was delicious. The place was small and not comfortable to sit for a party of 4 or more.

The flavor was amazing! However, the service was really bland. It takes a long time to get your order, and there is no salsa on the side unless you ask (first time I experienced this).
Over 20 minutes to get 3 tacos and 1 burrito (there was no line before us)
Price-wise, this was the most expensive taco restaurant I’ve been to: $6.99 for a single steak taco before choosing the 3 tipping percentages was very, very overpriced.
Paid street parking.

Absolutely worth the hype!
These tacos are next-level—packed with flavor, always fresh, and made with obvious care. You can taste the quality in every bite. Even if there’s a bit of a wait, trust me, it’s more than worth it. This is the kind of food that sticks with you—in the best way. Easily some of the best tacos I’ve ever had.

The prices are outrageous, but the worst part by far are the tacos. The flavor was average at best. They make their own tortillas which is a plus, but I couldn’t even taste them because they were completely soaked in oil, like, really? It would have been so much better to just heat them up on the griddle to let the real flavor come through. Instead, I ended up with a stomachache the rest of the day from all the excess oil.

Put down what you’re doing and come here right now. This place should have Michelin recognition. If it had the exposure and crowd that it deserves, I’m sure it would. We were passing through New Haven in hopes to get some pizza but the two famous places had hour+ lines out the door. We stumbled upon this place hangry and were truly left speechless. THIS is where the lines should be. We are from DC where food scene is incredible and have literally both been to Mexico, and no joke, nothing compared to this place? Especially the Carne Asada Taco. Holy holy holy, bury me with this taco. The owner and his brother are behind the counter doing mad scientist work, the tortillas are being pressed front and center, the meats are being carefully seared to order, the salsas are punchy and balanced, the chips are fried fresh. Don’t skip this place!

Tacos Los Gordos is truly one of the best restaurants downtown New Haven has to offer. The people are amazing, welcoming, and attentive, which makes the experience even better. The food is absolutely spectacular—fresh, flavorful, and prepared with care. The atmosphere is 100% on point, vibrant, and inviting. I strongly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for authentic, delicious food and a great dining experience. You won’t be disappointed!

This place wasn’t what I expected coming from a TikToker Clarizelin. As soon as we walked in..we were not greeted at All. Its a small walk-in restaurant with no idea if they had a menu, do we order online, are we going to be seated, will someone come with a menu…nothing. The 3 cooks I saw looked at is and not a word not even Hi. Finally the guy decided to say if we wanted to order…after 10mins just waiting for someone to greet us. We were the only ones in line..bad start already. I know its Summer and the weather is hot but this place was very uncomfortable to sit and eat..it was a Sauna inside. It took 30mins to get a Burrito and a Torta. The Drinks were in the fridge but with the Heat inside this place made our drinks warm in seconds. No ice or cups were offered.
But I must say the Burrito Asada and Torta was delicious! Only issue was no Salsa or Sauce was given or even offered. The menu on the website is difficult to order. Due to their unpleasant customer service I didn’t want to ask any questions about the menu or sauces because all 3 workers seemed a bother that we came in for food. I was very close to just walk away and go elsewhere. This place needs to step up their game to Greet people, assist with questions and add some fans or AC. Some people seemed very unhappy as well with the Service, pricing and overall atmosphere. Do not expect great service from this place. You have to go in and say Hi first just to be acknowledged. Again, food was great, tasty and full of flavors. Customer Service and atmosphere needs alot of work.

I’m a low scoring reviewer for Mexican food as I was born and raised off 26th Street Chicago and I have had some of the best Mexican food here in the US as well as in Mazatlan Mexico. If you ever had this happen to you it’s life changing and when I bit into the Taco de Rib eye I had a forgotten memory burst into my head of my Grandmother and her cooking at dawn god rest her soul. Thing is I was only 4 years old and I literally remember nothing about her but this restaurant brought back a memory that is bringing tears to my eyes because it’s as if she came down from heaven one last time to check on me and say that I am too skinny and then place the BEST Mexican food in my mouth. I cannot say enough about the authenticity of the food and the Michelin Star quality of the food and the world class preparation of the food. Is it expensive? Yes. I hate spending money and bitterly complain when a dollar leaves my wallet but I will spend my money without reservation for Tacos Los Gordos meals.
