It’s a beautiful setting. It had been recommended by two friends to request the house for dining as it is cozier and beautiful- we had a reservation but waited for 30 min for our table. We were so excited to try this new restaurant we figured worth the wait ! The manager was incredibly nice about our wait.. However when we were finally sat – i was very disappointed in the room in the house we were sat- it literally k looked like the overflow back room – not decorated nearly as nice or pretty , it was also very cold and drafty – no warmth , cluttered old stuffed dirty toys on stairs -no Christmas music was on- fireplace wasn’t lit because they said it will make it too hot. i did ask about the location they sat us in and then ended up feeling like l was being difficult .
I know it was busy and I’m sure in the midst of holiday business her perception of me appeared that way. This was to be a very special dinner for our family and l understand the staff was busy and tired but for a pricey restaurant -it wasn’t what l expected. The food was very good and the wait staff was wonderful. Just wish they made that room we were sat in look as nice as the others and their wouldn’t have been an issue . And again it was really cold in there. So not the cozy beautiful Christmas Eve dinner we anticipated but the other rooms l took photos of were beautiful and glad other patrons were able to enjoy a festive evening. I probably won’t go back again due to the lack of proper customer service on my request and how l was made to feel on such an expensive restaurant.

We were married here 20 years ago, then celebrated our 20th anniversary here recently. Had not visited at all in those 20 years, but the charm & hospitality remained! Beautiful historic building. We sat in the sunroom, which is where our wedding reception was. Service was great, food was amazing. Definitely worth the trip up South Mountain!

Still a nice place to dine, but suffers from a lack of staff and difficulty in getting some food stuff. Reservations are a must, they were turning away walk-ins as they only had 2 servers. Service was excellent, food was good, but I missed the Beef Wellington that I had enjoyed before the pandemic.

Went for Thanksgiving dinner and everything was absolutely perfect. From the moment we walked in, everyone including the owners were friendly and went out of their way to make sure we felt welcome, even though it was very busy and they were working hard to keep up. The turkey dinners, especially the sweet potatoes, were delicious. The seasonal fresh cranberry martini was also tasty. It was our first time there and we hope to be back soon. Thank you to the staff and owners for making our holiday dinner so very nice.

I visited here on a Friday evening with friends for a wedding rehearsal dinner. I had the salmon dish and it was perfectly prepared. The potatoes and vegetables as side dishes were excellent. They also served a wonderful cantaloupe wrapped with prosciutto for an appetizer. A yummy chocolate mousse finished the meal. The wait staff was outstanding, very friendly and very attentive. The setting was very nice and a thoroughly enjoyable visit.

Not a good experience on our last visit after Thanksgiving . Was there to celebrate birthday’s- mine and my wife’s with my family. Steak was over done and tough. Meatloaf was tasty but not warm. Had a great meal two weeks before on a Saturday. Been going there for a long time. Left a message with the owner after explaining our experience with the host. Never heard from him.

The oldest restaurant in Maryland: 1732
Great food and service.
We started with oysters and French onion soup which were very good. Then we ordered duck and salmon. My wife does not eat butter and they made her order with olive oil instead. Food was tasty and Serving size was good. Our sever (Karen) was very caring and helpful.
We are planning to visit again and try other options.
I do recommend this restaurant.

This restaurant hits the mark with every visit. My first experience was almost a decade prior, and the warmth of that initial impression is still etched in my mind. To include my most recent visit, we were welcomed by joyous employees to a cozy and comfortable dining room. Our server was friendly, down to earth, and knowledgeable about the food. By the end of the meal he was less of an employee and had become more of a welcomed addition to our party.

In this visit I enjoyed the prime rib, an old fashioned, and a few items from my party’s plates. Not to be mistaken with dissatisfaction, my old fashioned was standard. While I enjoyed it, the caliber of the rest of the food put my cocktail to shame. This is my only and surely a minor critique of the evening.

As for the food; the star of my plate was the prime rib, cooked to meet my expectations. The sides; mashed potatoes and a veggie medley, were amazing and cooked perfectly delicious in their own space, but never outdoing the main dish. In short the food was near perfect. Every bite was satisfying from start to finish. The food of my company created envy that I didn’t have a larger stomach, so that I could order another plate. Some outlying factors caused our night to end early so we missed out on desert. I finished the evening with an empty plate a full stomach, and a very happy heart.

The south mountain inn is a wonderful location for special events, joyous occasions.

Rented out for a Christmas party. So not everything is up to the restaurant, a lot is based on what the customer orders. Portions for our dinners was tiny. Great flavors and presentation. Oh, and it was the first time I’d ever had cold apple pie! It was different but not in a bad way. Atmosphere was ok, chair material needs updating/cleaned. Staff was great. I would recommend.
