During a recent trip to Vermont we stayed at the Essex Resort and we visited the Lazy Goat on our first evening there after checking in. We were able to get a table as this particular night the restaurant wasn’t incredibly busy, but typically it is recommended to get a reservation.
We ordered the VT Wagyu burger with fries and the Mac&Cheddar. Wait times between ordering and receiving our food were standard, between 10-15 minutes. The Wagyu burger was juicy and delicious! It was wonderfully seasoned and cooked perfectly to order. The Mac and cheddar had a very smooth but bold flavor and stood out as one of the better Mac and Cheese dishes I have had.
We also visited the Lazy Goat for breakfast the following morning. For breakfast we ordered the French toast for one plate and a standard breakfast of 2 eggs, sausage, home fries and toast for the other. Wait times mimicked the previous evening and were reasonable. The French toast was fluffy and sweet, and the syrup paired with the French toast was delicious! The home fries were wonderful and probably the best part of the standard breakfast plate. Unfortunately I felt like the sausage fell short, on this visit being very tough and difficult to even put a fork and knife through. I assume they were overcooked and this wasn’t the norm.
Overall, I would recommend the Lazy Goat if you are looking for a good place to eat while visiting the area. Bonus points if you are staying at the Essex as this choice doesn’t require you to leave the premises!

Great little tavern at the Essex Resort and Spa. Started with the loaded fingerling potatoes (YUM!). The honey burrata salad was absolutely delicious and a maple blondie matched with a caffe latte for dessert really hit the spot. Standard area prices, cozy atmosphere, family friendly. Super friendly and helpful waitstaff.

What a creative menu – from the starters to the dessert. The salad and asparagus were prepared to perfection, and the Margherita flatbread pizza with its fresh mozzarella was delightful. Our server, Carolina was perfectly attentive and very personable. Her menu recommendations were spot on. We’ll come find her for our next meal.

New name, mostly the same great menu items. Highly recommend the wings. Their weekly wing special is now Thursday nights, buy one get one half off.
We got a variety of items. The mushroom bisque soup was excellent. The salmon was cooked well and tasty. The short rib appetizer was good. And their burger is executed well, cooked to your liking, and good mix of toppings.

We ate here several times while staying at the inn. The tacos were a favorite, very flavorful and filling. The maple blonde with ice cream was also amazing, the perfect end to an evening. Updated menu and space, great service and food.

Restaurant in The Essex Resort and Spa. I was staying at the resort for work trip. I ate in the Lazy Goat for all my dinners. They have about 30 beers on tap almost all from VT. The food is outstanding. On my last evening I went into downtown Burlington to check it out and maybe eat there. I became paralyzed in deciding because everywhere in Burlington was new and I knew I could eat at the Lazy Goat and be sure to get a great meal. Which is what I did.
I sat at the bar each time I dined so can’t comment on wait staff but bar staff was great.
I had the wagyu burger, the steak frites twice and the Peruvian chicken. Usually as I was eating I considered ordering a second helping but my appetite was satiated by the time I finished.
I had desert one night and it was amazing in both presentation and quality.
Also was able to enjoy 20yr tawny port after dinner. It was overpriced but hey isn’t that the way with all wines in restaurants.
They also do live music some nights and my last night was music bingo.
The Lazy Goat is the sort of place I would like to be a regular but sadly I live 7 hours away.

Service and atmosphere was a knock out of the park! The outdoor patio is really great. Also some nice live music playing later in the evening. While I Enjoyed my New York Sirloin Steak, it was a bit strange with the sauce provided. I’d expect a hotel with a reputation for the culinary arts to let the food speak for itself. Most of the time with red meat, less is more. Loved the use of parsnip . Can’t speak highly enough of the waiting staff. They were so helpful.

The was food was good, but I wasn’t happy with the service. In addition to messing up the initial order, I was waiting over an hour for two breakfast burritos. We were told the kitchen staff didn’t notify the reception people the food is ready. We ended up getting breakfast somewhere else and kept the burritos for lunch.
