Pictured below is the Mao’s Braised Pork, Mala Beef Brisket Noodles, and Scallion Pancakes. All the food was delicious! This restaurant probably has the best scallion pancakes in Madison (very fluffy and fresh).
The only reasons why I took a star off is because there is an automatic 15% gratuity fee regardless of the number of people in your party. For context, my party consisted of myself and my friend. The other reason was that this restaurant is not vegan/vegetarian friendly. They cook all their dishes with lard (pork fat).

The sauteed beef tendon is really bad, it looks like a mess, it smells, and the seasoning is weird. Idk how it could be one of the house specials, it might be the worst beef tendon I’ve ever had in my life. I could only have two bites and I’ve already given up, such a waste of money.

The food in general is good. The price for each dish went up a lot.
We had a spoiled tofu dish, which seems to be a rare situation. I’ve ate there for years.
Now they charge a 15% gratuity for each table regardless of the number of guests. Keep an eye on it and do not over pay out of your own desires.

I’ve been here a few times now and I haven’t been disappointed yet. Staff is super friendly and welcoming. My last visit I came in for carryout. I received my food in a timely manner and my food was amazing. I’ll definitely be back again soon. Keep up the amazing service.

Our fav chinese place, food is fresh and yummy. Our regular choices are the eggplants, green beans and hazelnut shrimps. Staffs are friendly.

I ordered the chicken w/garlic sauce (listed as spicy) as one of their lunch specials which is supposed to include rice. I ordered delivery. My order did not come with rice. The chicken was coated in some non-distinct, non garlic flavored, gloppy sauce with some bell peppers. It was more like sweet and sour chicken than anything else, but not what I ordered. The hot and sour soup was full of cornstarch with little flavor. The kicker? No fortune cookie. Nothing was good. Very disappointing. I wouldn’t even call it Chinese food. Even if they mixed up my order, whatever it was they sent me was not good.

Even though the restaurant was packed due to holiday, the food and service was exceptional. The lovely lady who sat us explained the menu extensively, made recommendations, served us, and checked on us often — she treated us like VIPs. We couldn’t stop eating, and we didn’t until it was GONE. Delicious.
Seating was snug but with treatment and cuisine like this, it’s not a problem. Being surrounded with diversity and beautiful ethnicities is just another reason why I enjoy Madison. I’m grateful for Fugu and the Asian culture they share. Looking forward to our next visit.

Authentic restaurant with good service. Lots of options on the menu, slightly overwhelming without recommendations. Portion size is very good. There’s large round tables with turntables for group dining– it’s a good place to get dinner with friends.

Some of the best Chinese that I have eaten. They offer true Sichuan cuisine. You can get the Americanized stuff, but why? Be adventurous. The flavors would stop us in our tracks. It doesn’t offer fancy surroundings, but more than makes up for it in flavor. Top it off with a Nigori sake and life is good!

The maoxuewang is absolute horrifying!!! It looks spicy but taste like water!!! Don’t go!! And the intestines aren’t fresh either so it tastes uggggggggh gross. Everything in that dish is poorly made. The waiters were hanging around at the counter chit chat with each other and had to yell”WAITER” before they come and do their job. Not worth it at all. Will not go again.
