The Hungry Dog is a splendid little place that does not belong in a town like Mitchell- because it deserves so much more recognition than it may ever get.. So here I am, trying to expel that as much as I can!
You’ve never seen so many ways of eating a hot dog until you’ve come here, it was a lot to take in. And they have burgers, chicken, and milkshakes as well. The lady who rung us up had that typical Midwest charm and she was super sweet.
This place has the feel of a restaurant that would be featured on Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives- I can totally envision Guy going to town with a deep fried hot dog, a mac n cheese dog, and a breakfast burger to top it off. I tried the popper dog, which was a fried hot dog that had jalapeño and a raspberry sauce. I’m not a huge hot dog or fried food person but this was pretty darn good. The hot dog was REAL- just the meat alone was fantastic and super high quality, which really made me respect this place even more.
They have my vote for a Triple D appearance!

We were passing through Mitchell on a road trip and were in town around lunchtime. Searched places to eat and saw this as an option and gave it a chance based off the reviews. This place was so good. Fun establishment they have. The employees were really nice and helpful and the service was quick. We ate under one of the tables with the umbrella and were very comfortable. Everything was clean too. Too bad we aren’t closer to this place because I could see us going here regularly. Definitely recommend if you’re in town visiting and give this place a try.

I had purchased the Texas Tangler burger and the fried pickles with ranch to go.
Holy deliciousness. The burger itself was good but the toppings are what made it the next level. Loved the Cajun mayo. Friendly staff. Will definitely have to stop the next time I travel through Mitchell and try more menu items.

If you’re making a stop at the Corn Palace or just stopping through Mitchell, you should stop here. They aren’t too far off the interstate, so it’s worth the stop if you’re on a road trip along I-90. The Mac n Cheese Dog and cheese curds were surprisingly excellent. The cheese curds has seasoning. They were crisp on the outside and creamy on the inside. The Mac n Cheese on the dog was creamy and fresh. These aren’t just basic hot dogs. They offer a variety of hot dogs and burgers. I was quite impressed. They have a large outdoor seating area as well as indoor seating and takeout options. Our food was ready quick, and I’m glad we made the stop.

We are so happy we stopped at this little hot dog and hamburger joint! The portions are large and reasonably priced. More importantly, the food was outstanding! We had the Mac Attack Burger and the Wrangler Tangler hot dog… both were delicious! The owner even came out to check to see how everything was. They’re family owned and locally source their ingredients. He said they make their own hot dogs and sauces there! Highly recommend! It’s worth the stop!

This was an awesome place to eat after visiting the corn palace. The staff was obviously take Covid-19 precautions. The staff was also very friendly and the food was definitely made fresh. It took a few minutes to get the food but it was hot and brought to us promptly after being cooked. I highly doubt that my burger was frozen Patty. A staff member mentioned that the hot dogs my kids were eating were produced locally. I love a local business supporting other local businesses. The chocolate malt was delicious and great end to my meal. I will definitely be stopping back here the next time I’m in Mitchell.

Very good food 5 stars. Saturday mid afternoon it took 20+ minutes to order and then 35 minutes for the food to come out to the table. We would love to come back but we probably won’t unless they can improve their speed.

We got the Wrangler Tangler and the Philly dog with fries and cheese balls. The hot dogs were fantastic and I would like to try others. The cheese balls might have been the best I’ve had. Fast and friendly service. Will definitely come back when I’m in Mitchell.

This place is a treasure. It was some of the best food we have eaten on our road trip, and the best hotdog I have ever had. Everyone was very pleased.
