Definitely going for a custom $16 cocktail bar vibe which takes them about 2 minutes to make every drink. The music was nice tho. This is a place to go if you are attempting to impress other people in Northfield.

This is an awesome little pub! Our first time here and the Old Fashioned is fantastic! They don’t offer food but allow food in. Live music is a common theme here which is a fun environment. Quick take: come in have a drink and enjoy the environment/ music!

Food is not available, but I love that you can Door Dash food in. Good selection of beer. Staff was friendly. The multilevel patio out back is beautiful. Had the weather been nicer, I would of stayed out there all night. Walking bridge located behind the building that made it easier to get back to our hotel. Pool tables are available. Clean restrooms.

I used to have fond memories of The Contented Cow from 10–15 years ago, so my family and I made a day trip to Northfield with plans to eat and enjoy some cocktails here. Unfortunately, as soon as we walked in the door we were immediately told to leave because it was 18+. Such a huge disappointment.
The place only had about 7 customers on a Saturday at 8pm, yet they turned away a family who would have easily spent well over $100. If I were the owner, I’d be kicking myself for letting tabs like that walk out the door. Clearly, they must be doing extremely well to turn away business so casually, but for us it was a major letdown. We won’t be back.

Sat May 10th- We were there on this beautiful day at 7:00pm. We were one of the first people on this beautiful Saturday. Had a cocktail and left. Very nice experience. Back at 9:00 and this time a young man looking at ID’s. Had fun with him about looking at our IDs as we are a little bit older.
He did not give us any attention and acted as we were invisible and no eye contact. He was very rude!! Decided to leave right then and there. No one needs to be treated like that. I hope the new owners realize that they may need to reconsider who they have at the door of all people of all ages that come into their establishment and they can feel welcome!!

They have fun music events outdoors near the river. The staff does a great job of corraling up tables for patrons. Signs mistakingly state that you have to go inside order even though they have wait staff. Oddly enough they don’t allow their food outside while you’re listening to the music and drinking.

Came in to check the place out. Part of me is glad they weren’t around when I went to college at Carleton. I would have been more broke than I am now.
They were out of Shepherd’s Pie. But the Nachos were amazing. Drinking a local beer, Hitthebrix. It’s lovely.

Loved going to “the Cow” in years past for live music, great view. Under new owners, the atmosphere has changed dramatically.
Dumpsters and trash cans next to the stage are very unappealing. Seating on deck is limited due to removing tables and using benches.
Hours are limited so no opportunity for an early happy hour. Very disappointed in the change of ownership.

This is a very unique and rare pub. The new owners obviously cleaned up the place as needed, and have really focused on service and quality of their drinks. They were very helpful and informative and the drinks were fabulous. The Irish music was fun and at 9 PM sharp the college kids started filtering in for some local jazz music. Really fun place!
