Staff and chef were amazing!

I originally ordered take out, but knowing that it was a 50 minutes wait to receive my online order, I kindly asked the staff if it was possible to change it to dine in. They were kind enough to seat me right away even though they were really busy with orders before mine. I didn’t mind the wait since it was just me experiencing a solo sushi experience for the first time.

Being new to the eastern side of California, the uni at this sushi bar was amazing! The uni MELTS in your mouth. (Reminder: my order is originally for take out) I had the sashimi bento and that was amazing! Everything was amazing! They had this wasabi on the side that was mixed with a little minced garlic and that paired with the freshness of the raw tuna sashimi was perfect! I ended up putting the wasabi and minced garlic on almost everything.

Atmosphere
The restaurant was very straightforward. There weren’t any tables, only seats around the chefs. Seating is very limited.

Menus
They have two different menus. One is strictly for takeout and the other is to dine in due to them serving raw and premium fishes.

I sincerely thank the chef and the staff in making my first solo sushi experience amazing.

Hidden gem and one of my favorite spots. This is my feel good place to treat myself. Each piece of sushi from the omokase menu is immaculately delivered. The phenomenal touches like lime zest or truffle oil or roasted garlic chip adds such an enjoyable flavor profile. I’ve never once had a piece that didn’t melt in my mouth. Sooo good! Tony is my favorite sushi chef!

Super disappointed with my visit to Shokunin. I was really looking forward to trying the sushi bombs I saw all over their Instagram and TikTok—they looked amazing online. But in person, it just didn’t live up to the hype.
I placed my order at 8:00 PM for three sushi bombs/inari and didn’t get my food until 8:50 PM. Nearly an hour wait for something that should’ve been quick. I didn’t even complain—I just went up to ask for a water refill since it was really hot inside. That’s when they finally apologized for the delay.
I mentioned that I saw two people who ordered after me get their food before me, and the guy said it was because another customer had a big order. That didn’t really make sense—why would that delay mine if I ordered first? He apologized again and offered an extra sauce for free, which honestly didn’t make up for the wait.
What made it worse was that it wasn’t even busy. Just one person waiting and two people inside. Meanwhile, the cashier and one of the staff were just chatting and laughing while I sat there waiting.
At one point, someone sitting near me actually asked if the food was good and mentioned they noticed how long I had been waiting—especially since my friend, who ordered at the same time, had already gotten their food way earlier.
By the time my food finally came out, I honestly wasn’t even hungry anymore. I still gave it a try, but the presentation looked rushed.
Overall, not worth the wait.

This was our first visit. The restaurant located in the Haven City food court and only has a sushi bar, with no tables inside. You can order to go and eat in the food court dining area. Omakase is the only thing available at the sushi bar. I was with five others, and not everyone eats sushi, so I almost canceled our reservation. I’m glad I didn’t because their omakase was the best I’ve ever had. Each piece had a unique taste, and one was even smoked, which was amazing. For those who didn’t want sushi, they made a couple of rolls and wraps in the kitchen, but they had too much rice, and the guys didn’t like them. My husband and I are excited to return for the omakase.

One of my favorite omakase experiences to date! Every piece of fish was amazing! I had the Premium course dinner and was afraid I would still be hungry afterwards, but I was stuffed (in a good way) at the end. The chef was great and we had a nice conversation with the owner, Daniel. Will definitely come back!

Really enjoyed the lemon pepper sushi roll. Can take a while to get food if a lot of people but really quick if no one there.

Make a reservation and get to this amazing establishment! This is my go-to for great food and service. I’ve been dining here regularly for over a year and a half and love introducing friends to the awesome chefs. Big shoutout to Tony for always making my friends and me feel welcome and for the great conversation and insights into his craft.

Be a great guest and make sure you arrive for your reservation on time. It enhances the experience for everyone who is seated with you and ensures that everyone is served at the correct interval.

Update:
A year later and still love this place. We come back to celebrate special occasions frequently. Much love to the staff and chefs!

Hidden gem in Haven City (seems a bit unfit to have Omasake in a food-court like place). Tried Omasake premium and Chirashi Don. We liked the Escolar, Halibut, Scallop, and Ama Ebi with head. Fresh ingredients and interesting play with various sauces, spices, and garnish. We made a reservation online but it’s not crowded. Dine in for 2 is up to 1 hr. Though they were polite and not hurry us. High-quality ingredients are of course not cheap. Overall a memorable Omasake experience.
