Wormwood welcomes you into a journey of the past, when poets, writers & painters made the Green Fairy their muse. Absinthe known as the Elixir of the gods was the symbol of a Bohemian time that inspired the world. From an unjust ban making it the scapegoat of France national alcohol problem to the legends around some of the most famous characters in history, there is no other spirit that is so misunderstood. At Wormwood we aim to introduce you to some of the best Absinthe currently available, relate some the best of counts around the golden exhalation and take your palette into an unique journey.

My review is for the happy hour! We stopped in last week and really enjoyed our experience. The cheese board is so good, and the wine flights were great as well. We had an Absinthe drink as well, didn’t disappoint.

The patio dining was a beautiful space, it’s located in the rear. The food was very tasty, cocktails were refreshing, and service was timely/ polite. I think the crème brûlée desert was misleading since it was a deconstructed version but not advertised as such. Would def recommend this lovely restaurant overall.

Had a wonderful date night on the Patio of Wormwood. The setting is quaint and cozy. We selected the fixed menu and each course was unique and delicious. The absinthe selection is out of this world and the waitress was very knowledgable and helpful. Great place if you and yours are interested in a French experience.

I went for the Sunday brunch and the service and atmosphere with live jazz on the back patio was top notch! The drinks were also very tasty.

Made it to their first day with happy hour! Tasty bites and drinks at an affordable price. The tarte aux oignons is particularly delicious. We got there at 5pm and it was very quick to be seated; there was a wait line closer to 6pm. Note that HH is only available at the bar and high top tables inside, and the patio/sidewalk tables outside.

A big thank you to the hostess Sicily and the Wormwood staff for the utmost help in making sure that my group was comfortable at a table outside with my 2-year-old niece. Their customer service is some of the best you’ll find in the San Diego restaurant industry.

We’ve been to Wormwood several times over the past few years. In the beginning it was shaping up to be one of our favorite restaurants. Chef driven concept, good/creative dishes prepared well, casual yet fun ambiance, and creative cocktails. We had some great date nights here.

Sure, Parking can be challenging at times. It’s located at 30th and Adams. There is one paid lot across the street and we usually park there but sometimes it is full and you have to circle the area to find a spot. This is not the fault of the restaurant and it is sad to see negative restaurant reviews from customers because of their own inability to find parking.

A few months ago we came in for Brunch and had quite a different experience. The food was mediocre and left me feeling “let down”. The service was … ok. Nothing to write home about but nothing to specifically complain about.

Then we came back on Sunday to celebrate a family friend’s Milestone Birthday and our experience was not great.

The dining room tends to be loud so we booked a table in the back patio so we could have a more peaceful meal where everyone could hear each other converse.

Unfortunately, the owner’s wife was hosting some sort of Poetry night in the private space in the back. They had a PA system and the volume got progressively louder and louder throughout our meal. The audio went from Poetry Reading, to spiritual sounds, to some sort of chanting. If it wasn’t so loud we could have ignored it but the volume was a but much. I recommend they close the entire back area if they host these events in the future.

This event was negatively impacting the service as well. It seemed like all the servers were constantly running back there to take care of those guests and it impacted the service to the rest of the tables. We had to physically get up to find our server on multiple occasions to check on our order. For example: we ordered a cheese course at the same time we put our meal orders in. After the table was cleared, the server came by to present the desert menu. The deserts were delivered and finished before the cheese course arrived. I had nearly given up on the cheese course as it had been so long I suspected it would never arrive.

All in all, the food is still good. Albeit slow to come out of the kitchen. The service is friendly but neglectful. It used be much better and I hope they can turn it back around.

Booked for my 18th wedding anniversary, and the service and atmosphere were desirable to say the least. Our waitress congratulated us and even brought out a special treat at the end — a lovely touch that sealed our celebration.

Now, onto the food. The scallops were beautifully presented but unfortunately far too salty. The catch of the day, a bass served in a green sauce with a pistachio crust, looked promising but lacked texture — the fish could have been firmer beneath the crust. On a positive note, the cauliflower scattered around the plate was perfection — seriously the best I’ve ever had!

My husband ordered the steak with tater tots, topped with a pat of cold butter. Sadly, that dish didn’t hit the mark either. Still hungry, we decided to try the charred roe and rosemary bread appetizers. The bread was delicious, but the roe was disappointing — instead of a satisfying pop, they were more like tiny orbs that hadn’t “burst” yet. I also skipped the butter since it was on the sweeter side.

On the bright side, the drink selection was outstanding — creative, balanced, and delicious. I’d definitely return for the cocktails alone.

Hope this helps anyone considering a visit!

Wormwood was an outstanding experience from the food, service, and atmosphere!! The scallops in particular were a piece of art. One of my new favorites in San Diego.

Start to finish– such a lovely night. We went here as a whim on a date night and were very impressed.

Staff was extremely attentive, professional and knowledgeable (such as I would expect in a Michelin level restraunt– such a lovely surprise).

Food was absolutely delicious. The Scallops, Beef Tartare, and Lamb were true standouts.

Their liquer and wine list was impressive (just the Absinthe list alone!!).

We will definitely be back! Thank you for having us!
