This place is a hidden gem. Although we’ve been going here for years, it never fails to impress. The other reviews saying it’s “overpriced” don’t indulge in REAL sushi. Everybody is so welcoming and friendly. Do yourself a favor and make a visit!

Service is great it is a little small on the inside however. It is very good the sushi is fresh and they have amazing fried rice. I like to get mine spicy and they add some cajun and peppers. I have came here forever since i was a little kid and have tried almost every roll on the menu. All of it is amazing the ginger salad is to die for and they have great spicy mayo.

I used to like this place…now I’m just getting ROBBED.
pics: (left) what they used to give me vs (right) what they give now apparently — same price
and no, I didn’t take a bite before either of these photos.
Shame on y’all.

Sushi 101 is hands-down my go-to sushi spot in South Charlotte! The sushi here is absolutely fantastic — fresh, flavorful, and plated so beautifully it could be straight out of a foodie magazine. And the prices? Best in town, especially for the quality and presentation you get.
Must-try starters: the spring rolls, clear soup, and generously sized side salads — they’re all delicious and plentiful. Sushi is Noy’s specialty, and you can taste the passion in every bite. My personal favorites are the Jasmine Roll, Firecracker Roll, and Tokyo Rose.
Pro tip: stop in during lunch for the best deal you’ll find anywhere in town. If you love sushi, do yourself a favor and make this your next stop.

My wife and I had lunch at Sushi 101 recently. We were the only people in the restaurant for lunch which seemed unusual. Our server was good and the food was also good. We ordered Japanese Poppers as an appetizer and they were good. For our entrees we had two sushi rolls: the Jasmine Roll and the Surf & Turf Roll. Both rolls were good. Overall, a good experience.

Got the S&S combo for around $45.
The yaki udon with chicken katsu for $16.
With a beer $4
With Tip and tax, bill was $82
The udon with chicken katsu was really good. Katsu was very crispy and noodles were cooked well. A little salty but had good flavor.
The sushi…
If you have to cover the fish with lemon juice, so much so that you literally cannot taste the fish, you are destroying yourself in many ways
The fish was definitely not fresh. 1 piece was almost slimy but not there just yet. Had to catch a movie but if I didnt, I would have definitely made a fuss.
And the “wasabi” they gave was just garbage.
All in all, try their other dishes. I’d stay away from the raw fish dishes.
Oh and lighting is just horrible. Table was a bit sticky.

We have been going here for about 20 years. Food is great. Portions are large, and the staff is friendly. Several employees have been serving us from the beginning. Very consistent experience over 2 decades!
The sushi here is great and consistent. Noodle and rice bowls are large and delicious and the katsu chicken is crispy and juicy.
They have a good selection of sake as well.

I am rating this place for what it is–an excellent neighborhood restaurant. I go here for safe quick meals with friends or when I don’t wish to cook. I usually order sashimi salmon and tuna. I will also order chicken stir fried rice. These dishes hit the spot for me, but they are not spectacular five star restaurant meals. The sashimi does not melt in your mouth, but it never tastes frozen like other inexpensive places in this city. I have food allergies so I can’t try everything on the menu. My family usually likes a sushi roll for their meals. We love the local art pieces on the walls that are for sale. They are fun to see and we always wonder who the artists we’re this is a fast casual restaurant that is great for families with kids or a relaxed date night.
