We ordered the $60 course for one person. The appetizer and six pieces of sushi were too small. The fish may have been of good quality, but the taste was all as you’d expect. Americans who aren’t familiar with sushi would be surprised. The chef used snow crab, but he didn’t know where it came from. I didn’t see the value in the $60.

I love the food here and the atmosphere is very unique. I went here for a work party and everyone got to eat something they liked. Drinks were hand crafted with many different options. All the sushi rolls were delicious but were on the pricey side. The speaker system was amazing and I could feel the subwoofers in every song. I would return again but the price is high.

Last weekend, we discovered Dozo, a hidden gem in the back of Tender Mercy. They source their seafood directly from Japan, and it was delicious! The atmosphere was great and we received outstanding service!

If you are looking for an authentic Japanese style sushi this is the place for you! Their chef created menu was amazing and I like the fact that it changes every month. The service and chefs were very friendly and went out of their way to ensure we had an excellent experience.

Dozo, which is located in Downtown Dayton, OH, is an amazing sushi restaurant situated within the same space as their sister concept, Tender Mercy. Per their website, “Located in the back room of Tender Mercy, Dozo is not your typical Midwestern sushi restaurant. The eclectic and appointed atmosphere and the refined hospitality provide a foundation for an innovative menu of contemporary sushi expressions featuring premium fish, crafted and curated in ways wholly original to Dayton.”
I have to preface this review by saying that I did not visit Dozo specifically. However, I did recently visit Tender Mercy with my boyfriend for a night cap after dinner at Sueño, and they offer Dozo’s menu at the bar. While at Tender Mercy, we wanted to have another bite – and Dozo’s menu was the perfect offering. We tried their Edamame, which was SO excellent. The salted garlic butter seasoning absolutely made the dish, and this item was the perfect snack pairing to complement our TM cocktails. Looking forward to returning in the future to try Dozo as a full experience in itself! 🙂

To be fair Dayton is over 500 miles from the nearest ocean, so this is probably the best sushi place in town. But compared to any oceanside sushi joint, it is average. The nagiri and sake selections are very limited. The highlights of the menu are the appetizers but more because of uniqueness than flavor. The location is above average, service is solid too.

Amazing atmosphere and the servers were very fun and friendly. The tasting menu was fantastic, the chef Steven explained each piece to us and we were lucky enough to sit at the bar and watch it get made. Each piece was clearly made with a lot of love behind it as each one had a very unique flavor. They were also very accommodating as my boyfriend dislikes wasabi, and they made his pieces without any. I had the wine pairing with it and each one was very interesting. I’m usually pretty picky with wines but out of the four glasses there wasn’t a single one I disliked. Overall very pleasant experience, I would absolutely go again!

Fancy, but beyond worth it for a special occasion. Not only is this some of the best sushi I’ve tried, but the sake pairings are perfect too, and the atmosphere is great whether or not you’re here for a romantic evening or an outing with friends.
