This was a restaurant we used to frequent once every couple of months as we enjoyed the sushi and sashimi set. However, the service here on our latest visit was very disappointing and made it extremely hard to enjoy our dinner. We had a reservation at 7:30pm for a party of 5 and we waited for about an hour and fifteen minutes for the food to come out. There was no communication from our waitress about the status of our order and we watched other tables receive their order, finish their order, enjoy dessert, and leave before we actually received our order 25 minutes from closing.
I understand restaurants can be busy and sometimes unexpected events can occur, however, there was no communication from our waitress, no checking in to see if we would like an appetizer or some drinks in response to this significant delay. We had to proactively inquire about where our order was to receive an explanation for the significant delay. We were left to eat our dinner as the sole party left in the restaurant. This was one of the most disappointing experiences I have had at a restaurant. I still tipped 15% as a courtesy, but we won’t be returning anymore.

Good food, creative, scallops apertizer was really good, sashimi was fresh, mussels were done well service was great and price was decent for the quality and portion of food. We tried the Omakase and it was pretty good. Steak was tender but not melts in the mouth type of steak.

My husband and I have been meaning to check this place out for some time now and finally decided to dine here for dinner. When you enter, it seems like any other ordinary Japanese restaurant and gives a comforting atmosphere. Once we were seated, our server was very attentive throughout the night and made our dining experience pleasing.
For appetizer, we tried their ankou karaage (deep fried monk fish) and tempura appetizers. The monk fish tempura was great, but definitely very filling. Then we ordered our sushi set – my husband tried their sushi omakase and I decided to stick with the chef special sushi. We were blown away by how fresh it was and each piece tasted so good to the point they melt in your mouth! We’ve been searching for an authentic japanese sushi restaurant near our place and this is definitely A+ in our mind. Sushi Chef/owner is also Japanese so you can definitely trust his technique 🙂
Overall, really good sushi place in our local NJ area and HIGHLY recommend if you’re looking for a good sushi restaurant nearby.

My family has enjoyed Nakahara for several years and it’s always fantastic. The fish is very fresh, the atmosphere is clean and cozy with gentle jazz in the background and the service is attentive and friendly. There are many sushi options in the area, but this is one of a kind!

We got sushi & sashimi omakase, 85 dollars each and it was fresh and delicious. You get the usual fishes and I like the otoro and roe with rice the most. We didn’t have a reservation and was quickly seated and served at the bar table. Good value, would come back for other sets in the future.

I heard and expected so high of this place but left with some serious disappointment. I had a to-go food from here awhile ago and I loved the food. Ever since then I’ve heard from my friends and coworkers that they had a pleasant visit here. So I finally decided to pay a visit.
It was a special occasion and I was just happy to finally visit here. Foods came out and they tasted some good some okay but not as good as I firstly had it.
And the incident happened. one of servers tried to refill me the hot water (even after I asked for cold water ahead) and I know that he/she didn’t mean but spilled the hot water on my pants and my coat. He looked frustrated so I kept tell him that it’s okay it happens and another server brought extra napkins.
However that was it. No one apologized about the incident and every server had a query eyes of avoiding an eye contact with me and they just kept bringing more napkins.
At the end, the oldest lady gave us a gesture if we are done and ready to check out.
I have worked at a sushi/roll restaurant during my college year so I understand why they were shy but when someone spilled a hot water to customer, or even to anyone, that shouldn’t be the attitude towards the situation nor to the customer.
That was the moment I saw the true nature of this restaurant. I don’t know how well or well-known this restaurant has been but I’m no long going to recommend this restaurant moving forward

Local hidden gem. We have tried most of the sushi spots in our area and this is definitely our favorite. Sushi is fresh and delicious. Very authentic Japanese food, we always get the sushi for two set.

This is a picture of anago I ordered for $9-10. Your can tell it was thawed quickly and thus very dry and chewy. Really shouldn’t be selling this when you know it’s a bad quality. Even the spider roll was just subpar. I had stopped going here but I thought I would give it another try. I guess this will be my last time.

Food is great and it’s truly Japanese, comparing to other counter parties i.e. the way sashimi is cut, miso soup and small side dishes. We ordered sushi regular, Hire Katsu and spicy tuna salad. All were good. No picture for spicy tuna salad because it was so good I forgot about it
