Initially, I was a little put out that my group wanted to drive over an hour to eat dinner, but by the end of the night, it was clear, the right decision had been made!
When we first got there, we just grabbed a table out on the deck by the lake, and after about 20 minutes we still hadnt been noticed. There was a man (we assumed it was the manager) going around to all the tables, so we flagged him over to see if we could at least get some drinks until someone could take our order. Turns out this person was the owner, Tim Snodgrass. He was super apologetic and took our drink orders! Unexpectedly, he soon came to our table with a plate of delicious homemade pimento dip and crackers! Then a waitress comes out with a plate of chicken strips and insists they’re for us! They were breaded, moist, and very tasty! She let us know it was no charge – Thank you Tim!
All 5 of my party had the beef brisket, which was perfectly cooked and so tender it could be cut with a fork. I swear it melted in my mouth! I also had a baked potato and green beans. The green beans were perfectly cooked and seasoned with ham. The others in my party had baked beans, which they thought were extremely good. (They are not canned, but made from scratch using dried beans.) Afterwards I had the Bread Pudding with Whisky Lemon Sauce which I really enjoyed. My husband thought the New York Style Cheesecake was wonderful as well.
The restaurant sits lakeside with a wonderful view of the lake. The eatery itself is small with a few tables inside and more outside on a deck right on the lake. We ate outside enjoying the fresh air and watching the quiet lake activity. We even witnessed a young Eagle come out of the trees and sweep down on the water and grab a fish!
After dinner, we so busy enjoying the peace and quiet of the lake, we ended up being some of the last people to leave, and this afforded us the pleasure of sitting and talking with Tim. He has an extensive culinary background and many plans in store for the restaurant’s future. Talking with Tim was almost as enjoyable as eating his food! It was a perfect way to end our evening….although Tim had one more surprise for us. We just happened to be there at the exact time he had to take his signature prime rib off the fire. He asked us, with a mischievous grin, if we were curious about it. Of course we were! He emerged a few moments later with several generous pieces of prime rib for us to sample. OMG! Perfectly cooked, medium rare, melt in your mouth deliciousness! I have to say, I left there wonderfully miserable from eating way too much exquisite food.
I WILL be going back!
Did I mention they also have a bait shop in the restaurant? They sell bait and other fishing items including children’s fishing rods! Oh, and boats…something about boats… renting small boats for fishing? You will need yo ask Tim about that – by that time I had gone almost comatose from all the wonderful food in me telling me it was time to rest….
The only improvement you need to make, Tim, if you’re reading this:
HAMMOCKS – Tim, we need hammocks!
Honestly, disappointed I had high hopes for this place, especially their barbecue. I tried the Dry rub beef brisket and it was soggy, stringy , and had a thick strip of fat on each piece. It was the first time I’ve eaten barbecue and my body refused to finish the dish. It came with “texas toast and pickles” but in reality I got a piece of bread no bigger than the palm of my hand and 2 pickle chips, I’m not kidding. Overall felt pretty disrespected by being served this dish, and it was disrespectful to true barbecue. Pass on this one.
Food was delivered quickly and was delicious and the portions were just about perfect…left full, but not miserably stuffed!
Recommend the Carolina pulled pork…very tender with a delicious sauce and slaw on top, just the way it should be.
