On a recent trip, we chose Val’s based off of reviews and the menu options. We were greeted by Ashley who directed us to our booth then took our drink orders. We opted for the whiting choosing mashed potatoes, cabbage, and collard greens as our sides. The food was amazing! We both noted we had not had fish cooked that well since our childhood when our grandfather cooked for us. The sides were seasoned perfectly and complemented the fish. It was a delicious meal made better by great service. If you want a meal that makes you think of one home-cooked, you must try Val’s!

This was such a great little place! Best meatloaf I’ve ever had, hands down!! While I was there Val came out and greeted everyone. Many people she knew by name. You can tell she really cares about her food and her customers. Everyone needs to go – but students who are missing a home-cooked meal REALLY need to go. Not only will the food be home cooked but the atmosphere feels like family!

We went there around 3:30, so not that busy. We sat and waitress took our drink order as we were looking at the menus. She brought our drinks and said she’d be right back. In the meantime, two other parties of people came in. The waitress cleaned off other tables, no one was waiting for, got boxes ready for the leaving table, got drinks for the two new parties, talked to the other waitress then the other two tables had their orders taken and still we sat there for about a half hour. We went there because Google said it was a buffet, but we didn’t see one. We finally decided to leave. We went to the register to pay and the cashier was eating and held up her finger for us to wait even longer to pay for our drinks. She claimed she couldn’t ring us up until she talked to the waitress. We go out to eat a lot. There are plenty of places in the area to go to. I definitely would not recommend. I recommend removing the sign because clearly they don’t need our business.

Staff was very friendly. The place was nice and clean. This was my 1st time there. I was a little disappointed in the food. I had gotten a veggie plate to go. So I had to wait which is perfectly fine. Once I got my order I thought I would just sit in my car and eat it while it was hot but once in the car and opened the little containers the food was not hot so I had to wait till I got home to heat it up so the potatoes had gotten dry. But I figured the time I had to wait that the food would be nice and hot. I’ll give it another try at some point and maybe eat in next time.

Talk about a place that has it all! Val ( the owner) is a pure delight! Seating for approx 50-60+ patrons and very clean! Quick to compliment her employees( a biggie!). I was craving really GREAT fried chicken and good home cooking! I have to say it has to be the best fried chicken I have ever had! Juicy, LIGHTLY dusted with a perfectly seasoned coating and fried to wonderful crispiness! The mac and cheese(yummer) collard greens were like no other. Josh was our waiter! What a great human being, knowledgeable and a personality fit for any customer service position and beyond, don’t try to take him, he’s Val’s! Can’t wait to go back! PS: getting ready to eat the lemon cake I took home. All this goes for my husband Mickey’s attitude toward a great restaurant find! We got there right before the churches let out. Within 15 minutes the place was PACKED.
The wait was kinda long but the food was AWESOME. So well worth the wait. Kuddos to the friendly waitress.

Comfort is the optimal description here. The spacious dining room is inviting and comfortable. The staff are wonderfully welcoming and attentive. The food options are plentiful and made with love like its Sunday after church with all the family gathered. You can order off the menu or go through a serving line of pre-made options. This hidden gem is worth stopping by and enjoying. You won’t be disappointed.

I really didn’t care for the food. It is comfort/country/soul food style, and the selection is fine. I just wasn’t down for the taste. My company was fine with their food though and would return. I would return to try again or for other items as this is a scratch kitchen, so any day could be just a little different in flavor.
