I’ve visited this place multiple times, and I can confidently say it’s one of the best restaurants in the city. A true gastronomic experience.

The service is exceptional attentive, polished, and consistent every time. The quality of the food is on a completely different level compared to many other sushi spots. You can really taste the precision and freshness in every course.

My absolute favorite is the signature “spoon” dish a must-try. I also love that you can order additional off-menu items beyond the standard omakase set. It makes the experience more personalized and exciting.

They also offer a great selection of sake, which perfectly complements the menu.

Overall, one of the top-tier dining experiences in the city. Highly recommended.

This was my 3rd visit to Unami Omakase. They are very professional and it has been a different variety on my visits. The fish is very fresh, tasty and unique. Love the different pairings and flavor combinations and variety. Staff is warm and friendly.

My boyfriend and I came for the Tuna Tasting, and it was an incredible experience! I’ll admit, I was initially a little nervous after reading some of the reviews, but we didn’t encounter any of those issues at all.

Our Uber from the hotel ran late and what was supposed to be an early arrival turned into getting there about five minutes past our reservation time. I called the restaurant about 30 minutes beforehand to let them know, worried we might lose our counter seats or miss a course. Fortunately, they were so understanding, and we still got to sit at the sushi counter.

From the moment we arrived, everyone was incredibly welcoming the chefs, the servers, and the overall atmosphere felt both relaxed and fun. The staff were very knowledgeable, and we learned so much about the different cuts and types of tuna. You’d think eating only tuna all night might get repetitive, but every course was creative, unique, and left us wanting more.

We’ve been to many omakase restaurants, and this was truly one of the most memorable experiences we’ve ever had. If they host another tuna carving event, it’s absolutely something you have to try at least once!

We recently visited Umami Omakase and while the food was good (not extraordinary, but solid for the price point), our overall experience left us uncomfortable enough that we will not be going back.

Two things stood out.
1. When we arrived, the waitress asked if we were sisters. My wife corrected her and said we are married, to which the waitress responded with “congratulations,” as if it were surprising, and then asked how long we had been married. The whole exchange felt awkward, and I doubt she would have done the same with a straight couple.
2. For the last course, we noticed all the straight couples at the bar were served dessert with a little sign saying something like “love.” We were the only couple who did not receive this, which made us feel singled out. It could be coincidence, but it did not feel good.

Food and pricing are good for an omakase, but restaurants are about more than just the food. They are about the experience, and for us this felt unwelcoming and not inclusive. We left disappointed.

We visited for my birthday and we had an amazing time. Food was off the charts, particularly the uni special add-on which the server recommended as the chef’s signature. As good as the uni I had at Hokkaido, Japan last December. Dessert at the end was lowkey impressive.

Honestly, the servers made the day. They’re all very cheery in a lowkey way, making casual convo to connect in a non-intrusive way. They were polite and attentive from start to end. I’d say 3 stars out lf 5 are for their service throughout the dinner.

Suggestion: start the second dinner service at 8:15pm instead of 8:00pm; the process flow between first and second service times are absolutely terribly designed. Given this is a omakase dinner, everyone finishes at the same time. When your first service time finishes at 8pm, don’t start the next service time at 8pm. Two dozen people for the second service time including us had to wait crammed at the small counter area, while the servers were frantically trying to process all the checks, clean tables, and show guests out the door. Servers were constantly apologetic but honestly pushing back the second service time tl 8:15pm would’ve done the magic.

The food and service here is phenomenal. Everything was so fresh and prepared beautifully. Highly recommend doing the sake add on and getting a seat at the counter so you can watch the chefs at work.

Umami always delivers a top notch omakase dining experience every time that we have dined here, from the fresh seafood, great flavors and friendly service. We love dining at the counter and watch Chef Gary and his team busily prepare each wonderful bite. If you prefer more intimate conversations with friends, there are table seating as well.

We have enjoyed everything that we have eaten here, especially the oysters, uni spoon, smoked duck breast, wagyu, Australian prawns, chawanmushi, tomago taco, toro, and their homemade ginger. The nigiris have minimal sauce but have great texture and flavor combinations. It is very impressive to have such creativity and variety in preparation of foods in these well composed omakase dinners. Compared to other omakase dining options available in Boston, Umami offers a tremendous value in comparison. Highly recommend!

My husband and I traveled all the way from New Mexico. We love food of all kinds from many cultures and have a pretty high expectations for food/restaurants and Umami did NOT disappoint. It is the best Japanese fusion Omakase restaurant in Boston. Every course is like a new amazing surprise. We chose the 18 course and we will definitely be back.

The staff are amazing and so knowledgeable on what food we were eating. They took the time to get to know us and that was really special.

Overall, I had a good experience. You are definitely getting higher quality sushi, but only 1-2 dishes were truly memorable for me. I liked the performative gold glitter section of the experience. The ambiance and plating are on par with a nicer restaurant, not necessarily the price tag (as in, if part of the price is for the ambiance, I would have expected more).
