All the staff seems to be very mad and unwilling to help constantly. Since this cafeteria is for students with allergies, the options are naturally limited, but even then the kitchen staff never experiments beyond the same basic food: meat, a grain like rice or quinoa, a basic vegetable combo, and potatoes. I would love if the chef implemented more unique dishes.
In addition, starting this year, the cafeteria is closed on weekends. So even if you do have allergies, tough luck for you, because although The Vista at Shaw claims to be allergen-free on weekends, it is highly unlikely that the staff there would be able to completely rid the kitchen of all traces of allergens.

Check the MSU app for the daily menu. They used to serve a coconut yogurt that was the best yogurt in the world. Unfortunately since 2025 the flavor and texture of the yogurt changed. They probably changed the recipe.

Very good gluten free food. The cooking staff is very knowledgeable and kind. There is always a desert, and there is often chicken tenders. For $7.50 it’s hard to beat the price with for gluten free food (especially when it’s all-you-can-eat).

Cafeteria for hypoallergenic students. The chicken tenders are bomb. Still no silverware though. Please bring back the dish service. The food is too good.

Always dirty. Countertops and cupboard doors. Floor sticky. Often out of ketchup, coffee. Put food in boxes even if you want plate. Salty rice. Asian chicken only breaded. Unhealthy choices.
Edit: have since changed to an allergen free dining hall called Thrive. No longer open for breakfast. So far it’s much cleaner, food is so so, minimal selection but I’m sure it’s a good alternative for some.

If it wasn’t for the service this would have been a 4-star rev. The food at thrive is alright. Depending on what they serve we range from OK to Satisfying. But for some reason for you to interact with somebody who doesn’t give you the feeling that he or she it’s been here and hates serving you is rare. Not that there is noby (one dude is super friendly, he reminds of andy from Mordern family). I feel like a smile or at least eye contact can be improved

A third-party auditor, reviews and approves all ingredients and recipes used within Thrive. Regular allergen testing is performed by Thrive team members and results are sent to the auditor monthly”
