Monarquia Authentic Mexican Restaurant was built on a foundation of good food and close family. When you combine the authentic passion of two sisters rooted in tradition – well, let’s just say nothing stands in their way. Since its inception in 2018, Monarquia has quickly become the go-to for the best Mexican food in Amherst and surrounding towns. Why? Well, we hate to brag, but our family recipes come from generations of cooks that knew their way around the kitchen. Recipes that were first served a stone’s throw away from the El Arroyo, a small creek in the childhood village of the Sister’s Mother. Did we mention our fondness for family?

For a Friday night, this place was pretty empty. Staff was very attentive and kind.
Prices are very reasonable. Lots of selections to choose from.
Chips and salsa were brought right away and the salsa was very good. We ordered drinks. Hubs got a Captains and coke and I ordered the triple berry Margarita. His drink was adequate. Mine was very pretty but it was more of a tequila scented fruit punch than a Margarita. I am a true light weight drinker and I didn’t get any type of feeling from this drink. It did have lots of frozen fruit though which I made sure to scoop up.
We ordered ground beef nachos but were delivered nachos with some chopped/shredded beef. We didn’t want to complain and figured beef was beef so we ate them anyways. They were very tasty. Probably the best part of our meal.
I ordered the orange chicken and hubs got a shredded beef burrito.
I loved the rice and guacamole salad on my dish but was disappointed by the extremely thin and overcooked chicken breast under the nicely spiced orange sauce. This plate definitely would have benefitted from some refried beans to tie all the flavors together. I know because I scooped some beans from our nachos and it elevated my dinner choice.
Hubs burrito came with a guacamole type sauce that neither of us liked. The burrito was a bit dry and would have been better with some salsa or some type of sauce accompaniment.
At Monarquia, expert seasoning and sauces transforms Mexican staples from appetizers to entrees, setting them apart from its competitors. Despite its cozy size, the ambiance is fitting, featuring bar tops that comfortably host a dozen seats amidst large TVs and a well-stocked liquor selection.
The libations at Monarquia are a highlight, carefully crafted with a variety of margarita and cocktail combinations to suit any preference. Service consistently impresses, especially during quieter times.
In my opinion, Monarquia currently stands as my top pick for Mexican cuisine in the area. The restaurant is not just a local gem but a destination-worthy experience. ¡Nos vemos pronto!
