American fine dining with seasonal ingredients created and served by the owner chef. Our group of four vegans enjoyed sharing the 4 vegan dishes pictured (Feb 2026).

The Caesar salad would have been better with a vegan Caesar dressing instead of a vinaigrette. And there wasn’t much in the way of plant based protein on the menu, so we enjoyed these dishes as appetizers before going somewhere else for more food.

Service was quick and friendly.

We appreciated the upscale ambiance with vegan options, and would definitely go back again.

Wow!! Just WOW! Steve found us a table on a sold-out night. Definitely get reservations in advance! You can tell how passionate he and his wife are about making the food and the experience one of the most enjoyable in all of Mammoth Lakes. Definitely give this a try.

We had the turnip tartar and would prefer that over tuna tartar if we could ever find it again! We also had the cioppino, the short rib, and the mayonnaise cake. Nothing disappointed.

We love that they change the menu every season, so when we go back, we’ll make reservations early and try their new creations!

Made reservations expecting a good meal and had those expectations shattered. Not just the best food in Mammoth, but some items stand toe to toe with the best cuisine in the world. The squid ink fettuccine and the short ribs are amazing. Dipping their Italian bread in the short rib sauce is out of this world. We brought our picky 9 year old twins who mostly like simple kid food and even they really enjoyed it, which was the cherry on top. A+!

We are so glad we stopped in to have dinner at Ursa while we were in town. The cauliflower steak and spring trout are delicious and beautifully presented. Steve and his staff are very welcoming, you will feel at home!

The food was creatively and passionately created. The turnip tartare was a pleasant surprise. I would order that over tuna tartare, that’s how good it was. Surprised to know turnips could taste SO good. The chili oil and flakes along with the microgreens all worked perfectly together. The short rib was succulent and delicious. The flavors were vibrant! So many flavor levels. The cioppino was so flavorful. We had 2 orders of the bread to soak up the broth from that and the short ribs! Also, the butter that comes with the bread is so smooth and light. The wines are organic. We had two servers. One also worked in the kitchen and was knowledgeable and passionate about the food. He really guided us through the menu and spoke about the food to help us really understand and appreciate what we ordered. The other server was very sweet, but lacked knowledge and ownership of the food like the other. It’s a great time and it looks like they are well taken care of by Steve and his wife. We were also blessed to have Steve personally drop off a couple dishes and speak to us about his and his wife’s creations. His passion and story really elevated our experience. This is a wonderful place to dine.

We drove a significant distance to dine here and arrived hopeful, as the restaurant appeared to have open tables. Unfortunately, we were turned away and told that walk-ins must be personally approved by the chef-owner, despite tables being seated as we were leaving.

While I understand the importance of reservations for fine dining establishments, the experience was frustrating due to the lack of transparency. From a guest’s perspective, it was unclear why availability appeared open but was not actually accessible.

Clearer communication—such as explicitly stating that walk-ins are not accommodated regardless of visible seating—would help set expectations and avoid disappointment, especially for guests who have traveled a long way.

We respect the restaurant’s policies, but hospitality also includes clarity and consideration for guests’ time and effort. Based on this experience, I would strongly recommend making a reservation well in advance and confirming policies directly before travel.

I’m so glad we were finally able to try Ursa for dinner! We’ve been coming to Mammoth Roasting every chance we’re in town, but this was our first opportunity for dinner at Ursa and it did not disappoint. Chef Steve is kind and personable and so is the rest of his team. We had the lobster salad, the whole trout and the short ribs. It was all amazing. My 13 year old daughter said the short ribs made her feel like she went to heaven and gave God a high five. The cheesecake was some of the best I’ve ever had.

I’m so excited to have a solid restaurant in Mammoth serving high quality food at reasonable prices. You can really taste the love in the food. The setting is casual but that adds to the charm. We can’t wait to go back.

I had the turnip tartar and the miso eggplant (both vegan) and absolutely delicious! Would highly recommend coming here for a group that has vegan/vegetarians and meat eaters as everyone will enjoy the food options for them here.
