After visiting Lassen Volcanic National Park, my wife and I stopped at the Bantam Kitchen in Redding. Overall, it’s a good place to stop and eat.

The service was excellent and the staff was very friendly. Overall, the atmosphere was good but there was a strong smell that was something like mildew in the bathroom area.

My wife had the Jambalaya was good and would recommend it. I had the Mac & Cheese with Fried Chicken added on top which was good and I would recommend it. The Fried Chicken is not the traditional southern type fried chicken but had a good taste.

First, we were here on the last night at the Hartnell location and that messed with the availability of several items. We ordered the ranch bird sandwich with coleslaw and the cowboy nachos (sadly, without Peruvian cream) and grilled chicken. Both were top notch, to the point we had a hard time stopping. The dredge on the chicken was a little heavy for the sandwich, but still with good flavor. The slaw was housemade and paired excellently with the sandwich; to the point it should be ON the sandwich! The housemade pickles pushed this sandwich over the top. The chips in the nachos were housemade, light, fluffy, perfect crunch, awesome flavor, and any other positive adjective you can attach to a chip.

Braxton was our server and recommended the grilled chicken on the nachos. That pairing was divine! Soft, moist, grilled chicken thighs with such subtly excellent flavor on the pillowy soft crunch of the amazing chips. Braxton received top marks and earned the fifth star with ease. He really made the experience!

The space (being the one their leaving) was small, bar-like, clean-ish (the table was sticky even after Braxton wiped it down at our request) and loud. Thoughtfully decorated with chicken themed decor and a rustic-chic vibe that played well with the fare. The new location should bump the score when it’s not in a weird business park.

We’ll be back to get the full nacho experience and try some fries. (Braxton promised a little extra Peruvian cream!).

Service was great but otherwise not the best experience. The food was just ok. The catfish was very crispy (which was awesome) but I couldn’t taste any seasoning. The “cole slaw” is just red cabbage and sauce and it tasted quite bitter. Some of my fries were almost raw… Nothing major but things added up. In addition, there was a group that left their children unattended which created a noisy and stressful environment (not the restaurant’s fault, I know, just figured I’d mention it). The bathroom also smelled REALLY BAD (mildew or sewage perhaps). All in all, I might go back to try one other dish but I won’t be frequenting here.

We came here after kids sports because it was near with good ratings. This place is a gem in the rough. It should be packed but it’s not. Perfect hole in the wall vibe. Food flavor was over the top fantastic. Service was great. We are from out of the area but will definitely be back when in Redding!

The chicken wrap was great, and the salad was very good with the same sauce the wrap had on it. Bring your appetite good quality and plenty of it.
My friend had the chicken sandwich with the same salad I had. He really liked it and would order it again. Clean and friendly service. We shared the nachos with brisket. It is a must try. I believe that you won’t be disappointed.

Bantam is a great place if you love southern food. Most food in Redding is pretty bad but this is not. Friendly service, thorough seasoning, hot food, at decent prices.

Very pleasantly surprised with the food and the service. We kept it simple and ordered the house cheeseburger and a couple beers. Fantastic! The service was friendly and quick enough. That positive vibe was also present with the customers. Everyone was friendly, probably because the food was so good. You won’t regret your visit to this restaurant.

Stopped in at the new Redding Marketplace to grab a quick lunch on the way to Oregon and tried this new-to-us restaurant. Enjoyed it enough that we stopped again on the way back from Oregon and wish there was one in Sonoma County.
Great wings & tenders. Lots of variety on the menu. Good prices & awesome staff!
We will be back!!

The fried food was amazing, the brisket sandwich was a bit over cooked in my opinion but it’s nice restaurant that’s kid friendly. I recommend the fry daddy plate, best fried catfish in Redding!

I don’t have the words to express how much we love this place! The food is always delicious, they have amazing specials and the staff is always so friendly. The quality if the food is top notch, they use excellent ingredients and I’ve never had a dish I don’t like. And I’ve tried them all. Good southern style cooking with a Cajun swag.

Amazing.
