When driving from Seattle to Utah, we would normally stop in Pasco for BBQ at Porter’s, but they’ve taken a turn down-hill it seems – so that forced us to seek alternatives. Enter Texmex Mexican Restaurant. Found entirely by accident, we stumbled into some of the best Mexican I’ve had outside of Texas, and better than any I’ve had in Seattle…and I’ve tried a lot!
Walking into this place located in Benton City, WA, you would likely never know what you were about to treat yourself with. This food is off-the-hook excellent–truly some of the best tamales I’ve had and perhaps one of the best Mole sauces I’ve tasted outside of Guelaguetza Restaurant in LA. The Oaxaquenos and Veracruzanos Tamales are wrapped in banana leaf and steamed; the masa is like a savory, umtuous cake that was truly incredible – and very large. It was incredible enough that I took 12 of them home with me. One the way out the door, I asked to taste their Mole sauce, and after I convinced my eyes to roll forward, I took 2 large frozen bags of that home, too. Yeah, really. It was THAT good. Completely unexpected and turned a relatively rotten and (very) soggy trip home into a great drive home – knowing I’d get to have my tamales and mole over the next few days.
If you can, divert your trip through Benton City to stop here. Lucy and staff will take great care of you, and the only disappointment you will feel is knowing that this place isn’t closer to home. This place is 3 hours and 30 minutes away from my home, and I’m still seriously considering making a run down there for a tamale and mole refill.
Highest marks for this place.

Head-shakingly delicious. I do not know what the Central WA Mex familias do, but they all do it well. We love Mex flavors, but somehow they do it better here than where we live. And damn, I hate being ‘that guy’ that says things like that. Food is great everywhere, if you find what you’re looking for. But if you find yourself driving on I-82 between the Tri-Cities and Yakima, you can rest assure that a stop at any of the small towns along the way will give you the best Mex on the planet. I mean it…

Food was delicious and the waitresses were super sweet and kind to my kids. The place was super clean too and I had zero concerns letting my wiggly kids play on the floor after lunch. Absolutely great, highly recommend!

TexMex has become a Benton City favorite since they opened about a year ago. I love coming here with friends, and the menu is extensive and very reasonably priced. Their tostadas and tacos are marvelous, as are their special carne asada fries!
Service is excellent and friendly. Highly recommended.

We had to find a spot for lunch in between basketball games, and glad we picked TexMex. Walked into a clean and nicely decorated restaurant, service was excellent, and we were very pleased with the flavors of our food. We’d go back!

This is truly five star real Mexican food, not American Mexican food but food that you would actually eat in Mexico. It’s delicious. I’ve been going every Saturday morning for breakfast. The chilaquiles are outstanding and very authentic. 10 out of 10 restaurant.
