For anyone who thinks vegan food can’t be hearty and deeply satisfying, you need to visit the Dark & Light Cafe in Mount Dora. We had the Eggplant Panini and the Meatless Quesadilla and they were spectacular!
The Eggplant Panini was a masterpiece. It was one of the best vegan sandwiches I’ve had. The star was the eggplant – perfectly tender and meaty, coated in a light, crispy panko breading that added amazing texture. It was layered with creamy avocado, fresh tomato, peppery arugula, and a vegan cheddar that actually melted and had great flavor. The garlic and parsley spread on the soft, grilled ciabatta brought everything together with a fragrant, savory note. Every single bite was a perfect balance of crunchy, creamy, fresh, and savory.
The Meatless Quesadilla is a flavor powerhouse and an absolute triumph! The Impossible meat is seasoned to perfection—savory, slightly spicy, and with a texture that is honestly indistinguishable from the “real thing.” It’s beautifully complemented by the sweetness of the roasted red bell peppers and the sharp, melty goodness of the vegan cheese. The fresh toppings are a genius touch; the cool, peppery arugula and juicy diced tomatoes added right on top provide the perfect crisp, fresh contrast to the warm, gooey, and flavorful filling inside. This quesadilla doesn’t feel like a substitute for anything; it stands on its own as a delicious, crave-worthy meal. It’s the kind of dish that will make both vegans and non-vegans leave completely happy and full. Another home run from this incredible kitchen!
After such an incredible experience, I’m already planning my next visit to work my way through other items on the menu—if everything is this good, I’ve found my new favorite vegan spot!

What a gem! Stopped by the Dark and Light Cafe in town and was thrilled to find tasty vegan options in a small place. I grabbed the yucca balls and the vegan eggplant parmesan sandwich—both were delicious. The atmosphere, service, and overall vibe were spot on. I’d happily recommend this spot to anyone, vegan or not.

One of the best veggie burgers I have ever eaten. The homemade aioli mayo is heaven and goes perfectly on this sandwich.
Sandwiches come with a side of roasted potatoes that are absolutely delicious.
You will find this restaurant inside a building that houses a few shoppes as well as a taco stand, a Deli, and a Poké shop which is great if you are with folks who want to eat differing things as you can all eat from different restaurants but sit together.
We loved this Mom Pop eatery and know others will love it, too.

Every time my husband and I go to Mt Dora or pass by it is a must to stop in Dark and Light we love to enjoy a vegan dessert and today it wasn’t the exception. We love this place, good vegan food, great customer service the share are it is always clean

There’s definitely a reason why this place is five stars! The food is delicious and the prices are phenomenal. The owner is absolutely delightful and told me that he wants to keep prices affordables that everyone has the opportunity to taste real vegan food. I was only in town for a couple of days but both days I went there and tried as many things as I could. I got a decaf mocha that is made from scratch! That’s hard to find! The empanadas are delicious. I also had a jackfruit quesadilla that was amazing. The smoothies are great. In the location is also fabulous! Right in town and in a building with other stores. It’s definitely a great experience! Highly recommend and will definitely be back. Thank you for creating the space for us plant-based folks and also others who are curious

Highly recommend!! We enjoyed our time there. The food is AMAZING with fresh ingredients, flavorful and so many options. Reasonably priced for location and highly quality. The yucca bits are like clouds in your mouth. We loved the lentil burger and the nachos. Make sure you get their craft soda to wash down all the goodness. They even have sweet treats that are vegan and gluten free. The service was the best ! Friendly staff. We will definitely be back. THANK YOU Dark and Light Cafe.

Absolutely love this place! It’s a great vegan find. I was visiting Mount Dora and ate here for every meal during my stay! The eggplant panini was my favorite and the fruit nectar is heavenly, pro tip from an employee, mix the nectar flavors, may favorite is mango and guava. The service is great and the employees are all so sweet. If you’re in town visiting and want a tasty healthier option, prefer vegetarian and vegan food, or just want something yummy, I highly recommend! Next time I’m in Mount Dora I’m coming back!
