I have been trying to think of that restaurant for years. I moved away in ’93 and I’ve judged all Mexican restaurants by their chilli Verde.

If anyone remembers Los Baez and then Casa Baez, they were a family owned Mexican restaurant, but it was a super unique style/taste.

Oh boy, so much food for their lunch special at such a good price. Pork burrito and came with lettuce and tomato with rice & beans. An extra tortilla to build another from the left overs, and of course, chips and salsa while I waited…which wasn’t long at all.

You can tell lots of love went into this and so much from scratch, you can’t go wrong. Plenty of dining space inside, wonderful atmosphere and very friendly. I still can’t belive they’ve been here over 45 years, go down and show some love to this hard working family.

Perfect lunch portion for two! Steak fajitas were perfectly seasoned. The food was fresh and not greasy. I’m convinced their salsa is homemade – it was fantastic. We will definitely be visiting again.

Horrible service food was alright not going to lie. However the competition offers Oregon competitive prices. I wasn’t done with my food was being rushed even after I paid. I don’t mind paying a little bit extra only when it’s good service and if the place provides lounge chill atmosphere all of which this pace lacks. Save your pennies and spend them on a place well worth it. Nothing stood out in my meal other than I got riped off $55 for 2 dinner items and a kid’s meal. Have not come back since and will not be coming back again.

This place has a lot of PROS and CONS:

PRO – The people are friendly.
CON – It hard to find them. We waited to be seated for too long when place isn’t busy (2 out of 3 times).

PRO – Attention to order detail perfect. Timely service of food after order.
CON – Server rarely checks if you need refills or additional service.

PRO – The food is tasty. Plating is nice.
CON – Paying $5 for a 4 to 6 ounce burrito a la carte seems excessive.

Summary: It’s a nice place to sit and relax. The atmosphere is subdued and not too distracting. They once were the best place in Salem, but apparently their competitors have gained the edge. I hope they get back to stellar food and service in the future. If you want a restaurant with good value, I suggest you find another venue, Otherwise, the food is tasty and you will always find a smile from the owner(s) and servers.

There were three parties at the time I went. Good beans and tortillas, modest sized but that’s it! Now, service was terrible! We only saw our waiter when ordering and when we got our food; I was left talking when I was asking for refills and extra silverware… Won’t be back! Took an hour and twenty minutes to get our food after we ordered.

Had been years since I ate here. Food used to be great but it has seemingly radically changed It tears at me to leave this review of los Baez because I do know the owners, but a friendly smile isn’t what I’m eating.

Bottom line:The dinner I had tonight was simply bad

I ordered $60+ of food last night that was perhaps the worst restaurant food I’ve eaten in recent memory..

Quality has simply fallen off a cliff.

Poor quality, skimping in everything, clumpy chunky rice, dried out beans, lacking cheese, missing onions, and stale lettuce. That was just my chimichanga.

All 4 dishes were equally off..

Food seemed as if it came off a warmer at a low quality Mexican buffet.

Normally I’d give a place a one day pass and chalk it up to a off day but this was such a lousy meal I won’t be back..

Frankly it felt as if I donated $60 as we chucked most of the food and our family ended up cooking at home instead.

I thought the food was good and the service was great. Myself and my wife ate lunch here and if I might say the food was different than any other mexican food we have experienced before. With that being said remember that Mexico has many states like us and the food can be different from each state. I liked it, but my wife did not. You wont know unless you try it.
