Sushi here was fresh, the rice seemed a tad bit on the dryer side. The best ones were the uni toast and uni yellow fin tuna. The rest was slightly above average with some on the sour side though for me personally it was still great. Wasnt a big fan of the curry udon though I barely eat any udon anyways so thats me personally but only to try considering my cousin ordered it, since they didnt have katsu curry. The katsu pork cutlet was good though. Overall, if I was comparing this to Fujiya, Fujiya had better sushi overall, but Tamaki’s uni were just on another level from anything else so far even better than Fujiyas uni. I wanted to try the oyster or scallop shot since I loved Fujiyas oyster shot. Unfortunately didnt get it this time but maybe on happy hr Friday if I have time. The fried scallops were ok, but the fried garlic string beans were amazing, highly recommended.

This is literally my favorite sushi spot in Elk Grove. I have not had one thing I didn’t like. I usually come on Mondays because they have all day happy hour. You can’t do wrong with the mushroom tempura handroll, green beans, or any of the sashimi.

DO NOT SLEEP ON THIS PLACE. Hello Tamaki is Elk Grove’s treasure for premium, high grade sushi. A must try for anyone considering a delicious date night. Sit around the bar and watch ‘em cook – I have yet to have a bad dish!
The Lemon Wave roll is a must try, along with the Spicy Hokkaido Scallop hand roll.
Monday is ALL DAY happy hour.
There are 4 TVs around the restaurant to watch any games that might be on.
1/2026 – Updated with new photo of dine-in happy hour specials. They’ve got something every day of the week and are now closed on Tuesdays.

The food presentations are very nice. I ordered 6 varieties of Temaki, and all of them are delicious, and the ingredients are fresh. Deep fried oyster is really good, and the sauce that comes with it is really delicious. The serving of calamari is very generous. The service is fast and staff are all friendly and attentive . The place is clean, and the style is classy. The entrance door somehow is in need of welcoming vibe. Overall, this place is a gem!

It is one of the best Japanese restaurants in the U.S. with reasonable prices. In Seattle, I have to pay at least double to get quality Japanese food like this. Fish is fresh and the flavor is unique however not overpowering the fish. All the rolls are made fresh in front of the customers. The service is very good too. I will stop by every time when I come to Sacramento.
If you are looking for a place with big portion mediocre food, this is not the one for you.

Honestly the food is decent but the prices are outrageous. 9 dollars for a salmon temaki in my opinion makes it hard to justify going here over other japanese restaurants especially for the size. The interior decoration is very nice and you can see the sushi chef working in the center and all the staff were great.

Hokkaido Uni Toast
Grade: B+
The best thing here. Super rich and flavorful with uni, toro, and truffle oil on a nicely toasted baguette. Uni was mildly fishy but that’s practically unavoidable in the US. Very rich and probably wouldn’t be able to eat more than 2 pieces
———-
Salmon Hand Roll
Grade: D+
Overall tasted not bad but it’s just so ridiculously expensive for such a small temaki (literally 3 small squares of salmon)
———-
Tsubugai
Grade: C+
Usually don’t see whelk (sea snail) in temaki so was more of a unique one that is more worth the price.
———-
Spicy Tuna
Grade: D+
I can’t really find justification for paying these prices for essentially scrap fish, cucumbers, and cilantro. Should be at least a few dollars cheaper than the whole cut pieces of fish

Yuzu Negihama
Grade: D-
See above but with yellowtail and scallions.

Escolar
Grade: C
My favorite out of the 5 set. Flavors were balanced nicely but grade is still lowered for tiny portion size

The food was good but the price is not the best. I have been to Japan and the food here tasted similar, I mean the BBQ Albacore Hand Roll. It has a plastic that you have to remove before eating the roll. Felt like a convenience store food in Japan. I get it for the experience but dang. The calamari was good. The Big Back roll was also good too. I liked the Uni Toast but the wanted to try the wagyu toast and caviar. Which they ran out of and I don’t know which one but they haven’t removed it off the menu.

Our go to sushi place in Elk Grove. I absolutely hated sushi and this place has converted me! The lady in red is our go to roll. Hamachi Kama is definitely also a must. Not only is the food amazing but it’s worth every penny! Very affordable compared to other places. The service is outstanding. We normally go on Mondays since our favorite is there- Denise! She treats us so well and is so attentive. Great service and great food? Hard to find nowadays.
