I’m still not entirely sure how my noble chum posse ended up over here. We played a round of mini golf across the street at Barnacle Bill’s, which not only has an ice cream shop, but they serve Gifford’s, one of my all-time favorite ice creams. (My local ice cream shop also has it – excellent. Delicious with some interesting, off-beat flavors) For whatever reason, despite the convenience of the other establishment, we walked across the street to get our ice cream fix here.

My understanding is that Kohr’s is a bit of a local chain and as the name suggests, their niche is custard. For the record, I don’t like custard – I find it too heavy and distracting, pretty much the same reasons I don’t like non-skim milk. But from what I could see, they had plenty of normal ice cream options to choose from, which is what I did.

I decided to order one of my all-time faves, purple (black raspberry) ice cream with Reese’s Pieces topping. Friendly’s had the best variation of this, with an official sundae that also included peanut butter sauce. This one was okay. Palate-wise, it was a little too creamy for my taste, similar to Carvel’s version, but it was perfectly fine. The crew as a whole was a little underwhelmed by this place. I got the impression (I was very focused on my ice cream, so grain of salt) that the service was slower for them than it was for me, and no one was overly blown away by their ice creams and/or custards.

The location/convenience is great though. Like Barnacle Bill’s, this location is right on 35S and easy to get to and park, and the hours are super decent – they close at 11, so if you don’t get there in time, that’s absolutely on you.

This place has a nice history to it, and I wouldn’t have an issue stopping by again, or to one of their boardwalk locations. But it honestly wasn’t too memorable or distinguishable from the vast array of ice cream options in the area.

I went to Kohr’s for a nice sweet treat, and let me tell ya they fully fulfilled my desires. I was greated by a friendly smile, she really seemed like she loved working there. The orange vanilla cup was piece of art and I have zero complaints about the drips, price, or any of the employees. This place is a staple of the jersey shore, and I felt the workers really did love filling the role of that ‘classic’ spot. Nothin beats the original.

Employee seemed very annoyed to have to wait on customers – small cup that I ordered was so messy that it was all over the outside of the cup and all over his hands (and then all over my hands and dripped onto my shirt )when he handed me the cup!!! He acted put upon to have customers stoôI annoyed to have to answer any questions whatsoever with no care that custard was dripping all over the place. I asked for extra sauce and extra crunchies and was given the skimpiest amount of both. Additionally I was charged almost 7 dollars ( literally $6.75!!!) for the supposed small serving size. It was such a mess and had so little toppings on it I took three or four bites and throw it out right in front of the employee and he could not have cared less. A total waste of time and money and a huge disappointment.

Great place to get some ice cream, although the competition is tough with Barnacle Bill’s next door!
