For years now, Matt, Tyler and Jose have been run-in buddies while doin’ their own thing. Matt has been building out restaurants and bars for well over a decade. Tyler has been leveraging his design skills both as a contractor and as a food stylist over that span. Jose has been killing it in lower Queen Anne as the owner and operator of Laredos Grill. In the heart of the pandemic, these three amigos decided to look past the doom and gloom and envision what it could look like once we’re on the other side of it. Where would we like our overdue reunions to happen when it’s safe for friends and family to gather again? Where will we break bread and what meal would we share? Using the answers to these questions as a their compass, they set out…

About – Fireside Burien

A cozy, homie, throwback to the Golden Age of Midwest Taverns, right here in downtown Burien. After more than a year, much hard work, and many shared beers.

So happy to find this cozy, comfortable place with great food and friendly, attentive service. We were met by the hostess who overheard me say I was chilly and found us a table away from the door. Then the waitress greeted us with happy enthusiasm like we were locals! I had the Salisbury steak with a baked potato and broccolini. The steak was a little different than how I make it, a lot creamier gravy and I enjoyed the change up. Lots of mushrooms and meat was seasoned perfectly with all the flavors coming through. NOT the Swanson’s TV dinner meal! My dinner partner had the double smash burger with all the stuff on it ( too much to list) and loved it. Our go to cocktail, Old Fashioned with Woodford we graded a 5 on a 1-5 scale. Perfectly mixed AND one large ice cube – it really makes a difference especially if you savor your cocktail slowly. I was disappointed that I didn’t have room for dessert, so we’ll have to go back for apps and dessert. We will definitely be back!

Awesome food, awesome staff. Our server was friendly and top notch. My burger was perfect and my wife’s chicken sandwich was just right. The atmosphere was fun too, the music fit the vibe and was the perfect volume

I would recommend!

I loved this place! If I lived nearby, this would be my neighborhood hangout. I want this to be the place where they know my name. Welcomed as soon as we walked in. They seated in the best spot in the house. The service and food were so amazing I will be raving about it for years to come. Thank you Skip for a super fun dinner. If you are traveling make sure you stop here for dinner, drinks, brunch, whatever. Don’t miss out!!! I will be back and I will bring friends. more stars.

We enjoyed the atmosphere at Fireside Burien clean, inviting, with a cozy corner booth reserved for us. Service was friendly and efficient, and prices were very reasonable. The steak sandwich and smashburger were both hits. Fish and chips were just okay, and the beet salad had too much balsamic and greens for my taste. The date cake was a bit dry, but they happily brought more sauce. Overall, a pleasant experience and worth a visit!

I went to Fireside for happy hour with my wife because we were both in the mood for a good stiff drink. We’d been there before and remembered liking the cocktails, so it seemed like a solid choice.

You can definitely feel the regulars’ vibe—the staff light up and chat with the familiar faces, which is nice, but as non-regulars we just kind of faded into the background.

My wife ordered an old fashioned, and I got a manhattan (both made with the same Nickel Rye). Neither drink hit the mark. They tasted almost identical, and honestly, both were pretty weak. I’ve had dozens of each around town, and these felt way lighter on the whiskey than most places.

I don’t get why some spots short-pour the spirits. The better bars make them strong and let a big rock slowly open them up, but these came out already watered down—like the old fashion been shaken with crushed ice instead of being spirit-forward and gently stirred as they should be instead of shaken with ice.

Food was good, no issues there. Just disappointed in the cocktails on the whiskey bar side. We’ll probably head somewhere else next time we want a proper drink.

What a lovely little nook! The vibe is warm and friendly. Mocktail was very good. The soup and sandwich lunch special was rather underwhelming. Soup was pretty good but the cheese sandwich was horrible. I didn’t know it was possible to ruin a grilled cheese. It was dry with a small amount of a sour cheese in the middle. Maybe it was my menu choice. I would try this place again for the vibe and try the chicken pot pie. I must say the service was friendly and attentive.

If you’re anywhere near Burien and haven’t checked out The Fireside, you’re seriously missing out. This place nails the perfect mix of cozy and cool. From the moment you walk in, you’re hit with warm, retro vibes—think velvet booths, wood paneling, vintage beer signs, and yep, a real fireplace. It feels like a classic Midwest tavern, but with that laid-back Pacific Northwest charm.

The food? Total comfort. The walleye fish fry is legit—crispy, golden, and super fresh. The tater tot hot dish is exactly what you want it to be: warm, cheesy, and nostalgic in the best way. Their smashburger and Reuben are also top-tier. Everything feels thoughtfully made but still approachable and unfussy.

Drinks are on point too. They’ve got a killer cocktail list with some fun Midwest-inspired twists. Definitely try the Chicago Sour or the Minnesota Mule—you won’t regret it.

But honestly, what really makes The Fireside special is the vibe. The staff are friendly, the music is great, and it somehow feels like your new favorite local spot from the very first visit. Whether you’re grabbing dinner, catching up with friends, or just looking for a cozy spot to chill—The Fireside delivers every time.

Highly recommend. This place is a gem.

First time here, and I really liked it. Fun vibes and neat decor to look at. Super friendly staff. Food was delicious, ESPECIALLY their banana cream dessert. We ordered a French dip with tater tots, a double smash burger, and fries. It was delicious . We’ll totally be back soon!

Unassuming from the outside, very warm and inviting on the inside. Cozy like a lodge, especially with the fireplace going. Brunch menu was varied and delicious. Probably the best beer cheese I’ve ever had with the country potatoes. While the sausage gravy on the Hangover Burger made for a challenging delivery to mouth by hand, it was still delicious. Will be back for sure.

Fireside was really great. First, the service was really wonderful. Our server was so pleasant.

I got the smash burger and added lettuce and a side salad. It was really delicious. I like one patty, but if you are really hungry, get the double. The side salad was a really big portion. My husband got the fish (walleye) and chips and was super impressed. We started with the fried shrimp appetizer – you get 6 really big shrimp that were fried perfectly and came with a really great horseradish cocktail sauce. I also enjoyed a well-made Manhattan.

Reservations were easy to make and glad we did during the dinner rush as they got busy, and it was nice to sit near the fire.

Really enjoyed our dinner, and we’ll definitely be back to try more.
