Fantastic service. Generous portions. Have yet to find anything I don’t like. Actually plan my trips to this area around their hours, it’s literally worth the 4 hour drive!
Update: stopped back in. Quality is back front and center! Highly recommend. Perogies are fantastic, ice cream is back to being smooth and creamy and delicious. It does seem (could be wrong) that their sizes have shrunk though. The large milkshakes seem… Smaller?

So, this place is basically my namesake! Drove about 1.5 hours out of the way to take pictures and to partake of some glorious Spangenberg family cooking. Despite all of this I really wanted to like this place. I really did. There was only 1 guy ahead of us that ordered a single cheesesteak. We ordered 4 burgers and onion rings and fries. After 48 minutes of waiting we finally got our food and it was absolutely despicable. The burger was plain. And I mean PLAIN! No mayo. No ketchup. No mustard. No nothing. A bun and a slice of beef. That’s it. $6.50 for a cold piece of slop. Why the long wait? There certainly wasn’t any rush? This could have been served in 5 minutes. Those frozen White Castle sliders from Walmart would have microwaved 4 times faster and taste better that what I was served. Didn’t even see or taste salt on the pattie. The fries? Although handmade and despite looking fresh they were cold and soggy, and also didn’t have a single grain of salt on them. They looked like they were dunked in oil for about 20 seconds before they were served to us.
The ice cream line was served from a different window and after we ordered, noticed that most of the people were coming and going pretty quick. I get the feeling 99% of the customers only get frozen treats here. We ordered 2 sundaes. Hot fudge and strawberry and were served in about 2 minutes. Incredibly fast. Fresh. And refreshing. The food? I would have been happier with a 2 day old Big Mac that had been left on the counter at McDonalds.
I wanted to like this place. I really really did. We lived nearby for 4 years and I never forgot. When we finally make the trek, we finished and wished we hadn’t. I’m glad my family cooking isn’t this bad! Wasn’t worth the trip. Even for the fun Spangenberg family photo.

This used to be one of my favorite spots. I was so excited for it to reopen. Our experience was horrible. I ordered food for there and also a 20 piece chx to go. For those of you who used to love their fried chicken, it is NOT even close to the same (as they claimed on the Fb page). I didn’t get my side with that or my other 2 meals and they forgot the cheese for my cheese fries. Not to mention I waited an hour for 2 sandwiches and some chicken tenders. They mention how it’s not “fast food” but over and hour for their food? Really? I, myself, ordered a dried out grilled chx sandwich that was overcooked and had nothing on it. Honestly, the food nor service was good. We waited too long we decided to forego the 20+ minute wait for ice cream.

Ordered a chicken bacon ranch cheesesteak and chicken tenders on a roll is what I received. I have ordered these here before and it was an actual chicken cheesesteak with shredded meat. When we called back to see what happened, the girl said they were out of chicken cheesesteak and this is what we got. No apologies, no offers to make anything right. I’m really not sure why we weren’t told on the phone when placing the order or even told about the huge change when the order was picked up. I easily could have chosen a different item on the menu. Also had a mishap had in the summer where our order slip was put in the wrong place and after over 45 minutes of waiting and kindle asking for an update, we were told what happened.

That young blonde girl in the kitchen kept staring me down. The people at the window were very kind other than the fact that that blonde girl handed out my food and basically might as well threw it at me. I went to get ice cream after I ate my meal, and this boy that worked there was standing there and twirling his rag for at least 5 minutes before noticing I was there. He never even turned around just sent someone else to get me. The other workers were amazing! My food came out quickly and they were so kind! It was delicious!

Hamburgers were bland and a little chewy. Pierogies were browned but definitely not crispy like deep fried pierogies should be. Fries were over cooked and undercooked in the same batch. Chicken fingers were decent but they forgot BBQ sauce for them.

“Family”. Old woman complaining about 2 young boys playing in the rain meanwhile we have sat waiting for 50+ minutes on food is highly unacceptable.

Love going here for ice cream. Only complaint i really have are the hours. It’s very tough to make it after a ball game on a week night by 7 to Spangenbergs from Sunbury. But when we are able we love it!

I had a really disappointing experience at Spangenberg’s Family Drive-In. The service was absolutely terrible. They completely forgot my order, and after waiting over 30 minutes, they finally brought food—but it was the wrong order. To make things worse, half of my group didn’t get their food until much later, which just ruined the whole visit. This was supposed to be a fun outing, but instead it turned into a frustrating mess. Definitely not coming back.

two separate occasions I have had their food. One was a custom order delivered to my work place that was the most delicious chicken and other items I had in a very long time, the second I went there specifically bc the first experience was so good only to be GROSSLY DISAPPOINTED. I waited for over an hour ( with only one other car there), for 3 meals, the food was not of the same or even comparable quality that i experienced the first time. I never went there again bc of it. With inconsistency like that, better to not take chances. a bit pricey, long wait time, inconsistent quality.
