We stumbled upon this place and we were pleasantly surprised!

The food was absolutely delicious!!!! One person in our party did receive a lukewarm taco and a room temperature drink but everyone else’s food was impeccable. The flavor of the Jerk Chicken taco was amazing! Now it does have a kick, so if you’re not used to spicy seasoning be cautious! The catfish taco tasted like my grandma was frying fish in the back!! The bean taco was textured perfectly and not mushy like some other bean tacos I’ve had. Their corn tortillas didn’t fall apart which is always a concern when getting tacos. When you order chips and guacamole, it’s unlimited! So while we didn’t get a refill on guacamole, it was great to know we had the option!

The drinks are not batch made— the Jose Palmer is made BY CUP so it was SUPER FRESH!!!!

We were in town for a conference and it was evident that they were understaffed but the server was kind and asked for grace! Justin was our server.

Tacos were extremely good. The food was Fresh and had that flavor difference we were looking for from what we are used to in Texas.

Tacos Ranked in Reverse Order
4. Corn Meal Crusted Catfish – it was good but was just average compared to the other 3 Taco’s
3. Buttermilk Battered Fried Chicken – Very solid taco would have #2 had it not been for #2
2. Nashville Hot Fried Chicken – This taco was loaded with flavor and good heat. This Taco had my taste buds dancing
1. Oxtail Al Pastor – Easy Win for us. Oxtail was extremely flavorful and extremely tender. The meat just melted in your mouth. The Pineapple salsa sent it to another level. (MUST TRY)

Overall I give this place 5 stars from the tacos to the service.

As a Texan I was thrilled to find Soul Taco on my visit to Richmond! Their unique blend of flavors really hit the spot, offering a delightful twist on classic dishes. The tacos were packed with bold flavors and the atmosphere felt welcoming, bridging that familiar taco comfort with a fresh, local vibe. If you’re craving a taste of home while exploring new places, Soul Taco is a must-visit.

I went to Soul Taco on a whim because it was close to my hotel downtown. I ended up ordering a delicious mojito from the bar while I waited on my tacos. I ordered the fried catfish taco, the buttermilk chicken taco and the oxtail taco & all 3 were amazing! So much flavor and very reasonably priced. I’ll definitely stop by again before I leave town.

Came to Richmond, VA on vacation from Texas and came across this place Soul Taco. Me and my family where surprised how good these tacos where. Did not expect. Not your ordinary tacos they had their own spin on it. I really respect that. Coming from Houston Texas where Tacos are king. I would put these up against Texas tacos. I really enjoyed the food here definitely recommend this place to everyone. We had the Oxtail taco, jerk chicken taco, birria tacos, buttermilk batter fried chicken tacos, country fried carne asada tacos. All where great.

I recently got a job in the area, and decided to check out Soul Taco since it was walkable. When you walk in you grab a menu and order at the bar. Enter Pat, the bar tender/server. She was so sweet. She checked on me without hovering and removed my dishes promptly, always calling me by my name (not something I care about, to be honest, but I found it made her seem even friendlier). I would come back just to be in Pat’s presence. In fact, I’m considering coming back after work for a margarita.

Now the food. Most of the menu items are battered and fried (I suppose that is the “Soul” part), so not exactly a light lunch, but still delicious. I got the Nashville Hot and the Shrimp Po’ Boy. The tacos are about $5 each, but they do offer a lunch special of 3 for $12 for specific options, which is why I didn’t go that route. They were ready very quickly and Pat brought them right over.

Ambience wise, they were pumping somewhat loud pop music, which I enjoyed since I was solo. I could potentially see it being a little loud for a conversation.

All in all, the meal might have been a little heavy for returning to work, but I will absolutely be back in the evening sometime.

This place was worth the stop in Richmond. The decorations, music and experience was awesome. The food was really good! I would like to come back one day, the deep fried carne asada taco is where it’s at!

I use to Love this place I just wasted $5 for a chicken taco worst mistake. The chicken when I took the first bite seemed very slimy when I went to examine the chicken it’s half way cooked and yellow in color. When I seen who the cook was or the fact no customers were in there I should have walked back out the door. I will no longer eat from this establishment and it’s said because I truly enjoyed this place in the past.
