Beef pepper steak lunch special. Beef was extremely chewy. Sauce had a lingering unpleasant aftertaste. All lunch specials come with pork fried rice. I ordered my rice without pork. Rice was flavorless, dry, and hard. It had no veggies or anything. Did not even eat the meal. I will stick to my usual Chinese restaurant down the street in Chicago.

This is my go-to place being nearby. Really great velveted shredded beef. Heavy on veggies which are sometimes cut a bit too thick for me on certain dishes though which is sometimes a bummer given the higher prices but I assume this is a function of just generally higher prices for everything these days so I’m not broken up about it. Anecdotally I am pretty sure some dishes in the past might have had fried rice included which doesn’t happen anymore, but I think that’s possibly misremembered as a combo deal. So… get the combo deals if you can. Regardless the food is still good and I like how they bread general tso’s, which has VERY generous portions (which is why I wish some of their other dishes had more meat, haha). I would kill if this place had braised pork though.

Never had Chinese food as fresh and flavorful as the food at Hunan Spring. They don’t even use MSG. Vegetables are impressive. Rice is perfect. They must buy their food from better sources than other Chinese restaurants. The chef is a magician. Food comes out beautiful super fast and delicious. Super busy carry out with plenty of room to dine in. Beef Peking and Beef Mongolian this time.

This place is very small, we have done carry out multiple times. Food is amazing, especially General Tso’s tofu – very crispy and unbeatable flavor. Will definitely be coming back.

I highly recommend their fried rice and anything from their wok. I always get their shrimp fried rice. They load it with decent sized shrimp that is perfectly cooked and fresh tasting. Rice is great; it’s got that authentic subtle smokiness from the ‘wok hei’. Not overpowering not too salty. Nice clean interiors. Definitely recommend checking it out.

When I lived in Chicago, this was a staple of my diet. It’s nice to see the food is still amazing.
I highly recommend the Sesame Chicken. It’s still the best I’ve ever had.
On a side note, be careful in the parking lot. People are out begging for money and will literally come up to your car and knock on your window to ask.

I got the eggplant in garlic sauce that’s supposed to be spicy… it wasn’t spicy, extremely greasy, & slimy. The eggplant should’ve been in a plastic container due to all the grease in sauce but they used the paper container. I really don’t understand why the eggplant was so slimy… it ruined the meal. Won’t ever try that again
