LISTEN, food was NOT what I expected! It was seasoned, juicy, and flavorful. Our order was messed up – ordered wings in two flavor but they didn’t get it right. The oxtails – EXPENSIVE; ease up on the smokey flavor bc it made the gravy too salty. Mac and other sides was a hit! BUUUUT the customer service sucked so bad! Likeeeeee I spent $100 HERE, can I get a thank you? Welcome to our business? We appreciate the support?!?! Something!!! That was the worse part – did I enjoy the food? Yes! The customer service experience will always outweigh the cost or even food quality sooo yeah, that has to be better! I find that many black owned businesses lack that – WE want to support BUT something lacks one way or the other. Pls fix! I’d love to support again.

My first visit was great. I didn’t wait too long. Customer service was great. Ribs and chicken was excellent. 10/10 I definitely recommend.

I have ordered from this restaurant several times and today was the first time I was disappointed with the portions size! I ordered a rib plate and it was noticeably less than my previous orders…I don’t mind paying the stated price, but please don’t switch up on what the customer gets for said price once you gain the business…I drove 25 minutes for 4 (four) ribs (w/sides packaged separately at request)…smh…pic included below!

This place is filthy! The very small bathroom was ten times worst than these photos. The oxtails were overcooked and super fatty! The rice was not done. There was a sweetness to it that was not to my liking. And the plate was so piled up with the loose gravy juice so much so that it ran into the other food items. This presentation was disgusting. Not everyone likes their food to touch. Whole plate went in the garbage. And the cornbread was about as hard as my granite counter tops.

Enjoyed a wonderful lunch with my mom! The chicken was deliciously smoked, and the rib sandwich was tender and juicy. The mac and cheese was yummy like Velveeta. The smoked cabbage was a winner all day long. My only negative (if you could call it that) was the potato salad might have been a bit too mustard heavy. My mother said, “Kendrick Lamar would disagree.”
Will visit again.

Fantastic food. The smoked cabbage is officially the best and only way to cook cabbage. The bayou juice is good if a bit overly sweet, and a version with some rum in it might be nice. I’ve gotten ribs, chicken, brisket, sausage, etc. Nothing was bad. Only thing they could do is maybe have a menu option that let’s you put your own meal together.

Mr. Calvin Collier, if you’re reading this, you need to work on these things:
1. SERVICE- it was horrible, we had to wait an hour just for the food to come out. There was only one waitress working on Saturday. On top of that, when we asked about the menu she was rude.
2. MENU- there’s only 3 items on the menu and that’s the bbq plates, bbq nachos, and bbq sandwiches. No appetizers, no desserts, and no cocktails. Also, the menu is poorly written because it doesn’t tell you what comes on the nachos and what comes on the bbq sandwiches, it only gives choices of meat.
3. ATMOSPHERE- it was so unprofessional to sit at hear you whole staff singing in the kitchen while we had to sit there and wait for so long on our food to come out.
4. FOOD- overall the food wasn’t good. The ingredients used on the sandwiches weren’t fresh. The nachos were poorly made. The nachos had that cheap plastic tasting cheese, Sweet Baby Ray’s bbq sauce, your choice of meat piled on top of chips, which I ended up getting sick from just a couple hours after eating it.

Very disappointed… especially after reading all of the great reviews.
The staff was very friendly, however it took 45 minutes before I got my food and I got there before it got crowded. Counter service with Most orders to-go. I dined in with plastic utensils.
First, the brisket was good, not great. It was tender but had very little spice and no smoke flavor. The collards were under cooked and the onion rings were overcooked (in what appears to be old oil). ‍♂️maybe it was an off day.

1st time experience and this place literally jumped to my #1 spot for BBQ!!

I am basing my review on a (3) meat plate and 2 sides. I ordered a three plate that included chicken, sausage, and ribs. Up until today BRQ was my go to spot (location) for BBQ. I decided to try Smoke Bayou today and now I’m wondering why it took me so long. The empty parking area is usually a bad sign and I ignored that and I’m so happy I did. What is wrong with you people? You need to try this place…

Anyway, back to the food. The chicken was juicy and flavorful. As far as a restaurant sausage, it’s the first one that I found that competes with Conecuh, and in my humble opinion is one of the best restaurant sausages I’ve ever had. Now let’s talk about the ribs. Sweet, tender, and flavorful… They literally tasted like a pitmaster just handed me over a plate straight from a smoker. I usually judge ribs by the edges. I won’t name the three restaurants in Baton Rouge, but are all guilty of having the middle of the ribs, fairly good but at the edges harder than a leather saddle. No matter where you took a bite from, the end or the middle it was all consistently tender and juicy. That is very hard to pull off in a restaurant environment and reminds me of some of the finer bbq places I’ve eaten in Texas and Memphis.

To a lesser degree let’s talk about the sides I decided to go with the yams and the coleslaw. The yams were recommended to me by the wait staff and boy was it awesome. If people weren’t around, I would’ve licked the plate. The coleslaw was fresh and tasted outstanding. Maybe hold off for just a tiny bit on the juiciness, but I love it that way – others may take issue.

Finally, let’s talk about the atmosphere. The restaurant was empty on a Sunday evening. Baton Rouge is not necessarily a barbecue town, but this place is really outstanding. My waitress was very attentive, and she even brought the owner to meet me. I waited maybe 15 minutes for my food and I question how could it taste so fresh for them to get the food out to me that quickly but it was outstanding, the entire meal. I did not try their drinks. I drank water with my meal. I can’t comment on the brisket or anything else, but I wouldn’t hesitate to try that either.
