Hands down the best Italian restaurant in Sacramento. A hidden, unassuming gem of a restaurant with elevated, classic, fresh Italian fare and all made in house, including the pasta! Call now and make reservations as it fills up fast. We were a big party of 9 and ordered lots of apps and food. From the freshly baked bread to the scallops and lasagna, everything was perfect. Don’t miss the specials or skip on the tiramisu!

We were craving Italian food and came across this place.
We started with the Capesante con Piselli, which came with pan-seared scallops, acorn squash purée, crispy parsnip, and salmoriglio sauce. It was incredibly delicious; the scallops were cooked perfectly, juicy, and full of flavor.
For the entrée, we ordered the Lasagne al Ragù di Carne, made with 12 layers of spinach pasta, meat tomato ragù, béchamel, and Parmesan cheese. It’s my first time seeing green lasagne, which was really interesting. Their ragu sauce was spot on, rich and well-balanced.
We also tried the Gnocchi of the Day, which was a bit letdown for me. The gnocchi had a firm, almost hard center. I was expecting it to be soft, pillowy, tender, and have an almost melt-in-your-mouth. The sauce was a bit watery, and overall, the flavor profile felt bland.
For the desserts, I had the tiramisu, made with mascarpone, ladyfingers, espresso, and cocoa powder. It tasted good, but I personally prefer a stronger and bolder espresso flavor.
The service was great and very attentive throughout our meal.

The food here is excellent. My friend and I were not sure what to expect, but neither of us had expectations this high. We had the steak bites and the agnolotti pasta. Both were absolutely fantastic! We were blown away. I’d love to bring my parents here.

So happy I stumbled upon this place. Had a taste for good Italian and good wine. Was actually headed to a competitors establishment but traffic was bad and I didnt feel like dealing with it. The food here was top tier. Service was great too. It just started off kind of awkward, at least from my perspective. But my waitress warmed up about mid way and the remainder of the service was stellar. I had the lamb appetizer. Had a pesto ravioli with Italian ham and cheese filling. Pistachio sauce. Incredible mix of flavors. Cappuccino cheese cake for dessert. Perfect texture. Great flavor. The whole meal including the wine was pure perfection. Will repeat as often as I can.

An absolute gem! Everything we’ve ordered here is fantastic from antipasti to gelato! Their regular menu items are top notch, but I especially love trying their specials and seems like they never miss. Plus their staff is friendly, attentive, and helpful. They are efficient but not too busy to chat or joke around a little, which always makes us feel so welcome. We love to come here on special occasions like celebrating birthdays or career milestones and we’re always glad we did!

What a lovely restaurant. The food is delicious and the service is exceptional. We’ve only visited twice so far. The first time was for dinner, the second visit was for happy hour and we sat at the bar. The bartender was super friendly and knowledgeable. The drinks were fabulous and the bar patrons were very friendly. Mattone has definitely been added to our list of favs!

The menu is kind of difficult to help you decide on what to order but our waiter made great suggestions. The dessert (forgot the name) was recommended by waiter & although it looks heavy; it was actually light and tasted really good.
